Steering went neutral when I burned up the fuel in my jerry cans. 75 pounds of fuel mounted above the bumper, four feet behind the axle, and 18" off-center was creating dynamic steering anomalies. For an added 200 miles of range, I'll deal with it. The truck has its problems, but it has been perfectly reliable for awhile. Starts right up, 10 degrees or 110 degrees. We got a pretty good snow this morning and I went out trying to break the tires loose. That Eaton sticks like glue. I don't know if I'd say it's worth the money, but I'm certainly glad it's paid for. After messing around with the CUCV for a year and a half, it has stopped breaking down and quit eating all my money, which is a desirable trait in a daily driver. Feeling blessed to be able to focus on other things now. I hope everyone is well and had a good holiday season.

If I still had my pintle hitch... If I had someplace to park a trailer...

People born in Las Cruces think this isn't the middle of nowhere, but they're wrong. You saddle up for a 700 mile drive to buy things like this trailer, and you pay three times as much for it. There's at least one M1008 and one HMMWV in town. Somebody is going to be very happy.

The 3M Combat Arms settlement hit my account this morning. Considered ordering a HMMWV winch and Engineered Vintage mount. Ordered a jukebox instead. It will get more use. Remind my desiccated corpse of this decision when you find it holding a shovel in the dunes.

Those Mile Marker electric 24v HMMWV winches that go for a grand on eBay:

The jukebox is vinyl and CD with Bluetooth and USB. I had a USB stereo on a big fairing I put on a Yamaha 1900 about 15 years ago, so it's familiar to me and probably what I'll use to load up the tunes. I got the Elvis special edition one 'cause it was black and red and gold. It's only an MDF box with a cheap, pretty facia on it. An honest to god jukebox in the style of the '50s would have run ten grand, which was never going to happen, so I'm grateful for the consumer grade junk on the market that I can afford.

Anybody got a lead on rubber door stops? I ordered GMK414440373S from Parts Geek. The holes in the door jamb are 16.3mm, but the parts they sent have 9mm flanges, so I'm sending them back.

I think the door stops you got were correct, but I'm thinking that your holes are too big. 16.3mm is just over 5/8".....Is it possible someone drilled them larger at some point in the past? I popped some new one's in my truck this past summer and don't remember the holes being that big.

Hmm...sounds like they were taken oversize.

Well...maybe you could get a little creative and use some GM hood bumpers like these...

Just an idea I thought I throw out there. Just stick them in the hole and bolt it from the other side.

Jegs has them here...

Went looking for cottontails, jackrabbits, and rattlers today. Rabbit scat here and there, but no rabbits. Empty burrows. No luck. Climbing the hills, I was so preoccupied with keeping the rubber side down, I did not notice the elevation gain until I looked behind me and took in the kind of view you typically only get from an aircraft. This rock can be summitted in four low, but I like the shape of my sheet metal, so I stopped here.

Home Depot sells 2.5 gallons of Rotella T4 for $40. They're delivering four Fram PH5 filters to my porch for $20, same day delivery. That makes for $18 oil changes. They give 10% off on everything for veterans in case anybody didn't know. Lowes too, but I don't use their website because it's a mess.

Edited to add my math was terrible. I counted tenths as quarts. Nobody is getting $18 oil changes, but it's still a good deal. Especially if you get free delivery.
