Drained the steering box a couple days ago. Had the usual gear oil in it. Today I filled it with JD corn head grease.
This weekend I might finally get to removing the radiator so I can completly flush the system. I have new belts and coolant hoses to put on her. Been wanting to do that for awhile.

I installed the transfer case shifter boot. I tried to use the shifter boot that I’ve seen others use here (Mr. Gasket, I believe?) and it didn’t look like it was going to work without tearing when the transfer case was in low range. So I had to go an alternative route.

Holy hell I like that one. I have the Mr Gasket one and it is ok but this one is cool. I can see it being a custom job.

Will see if they have it in the morning....gotta go there anyway!
10-4 I'm going to head on over to my NAPA shop in the morning. I don't need it for the Deuce but I got a friend with a 56 Studebaker Champion that has a steering box with a slow leak.

Now that is real nice and very clean looking !!!
Did you make the plate yourself or did you have it made ? If you had it made, how much did they charge you and are they willing to make more ?

Son of a buck! Taking radiator out of my deuce. One bolt on the bottom stud came off easy, the other one I barely put pressure on to turn the nut and the bolt sheered right off. It was pretty rusty, so I've been shooting it with pb blaster for a couple weeks now. Anyone have this happen to them? Any fix ideas? Maybe I can weld another bolt on where this one broke. So much for a quick job:doh:

Where'd you get that boot from? I haven't seen that style before.

Thanks everyone. My shifter boot was fabricated in our shop. I made it out of a 1/8" Aluminum and milled out the center. Then I drilled the holes and deburred it and lastly engraved it on an engraving machine, before painting. The rubber was just some stuff we had laying around that I cut to match the plate. The floor in the truck was tapped for the 10-32 blackened stainless steel screws. I'm not sure if I have time to make more, I might consider it. I'm also not sure if I could charge a price that people would think is fair.

Still making progress, I removed the air filter casing & sanded the majority of paint runs out of the old paint. I also stripped the old paint off the air cleaner mount, got the splash guards painted one last time, painted the air intake & did some more painting under the hood...

More progress...slow going, but I'm getting things done. Got the air intake cleaner primed up & painted, also touched up the firewall some, cleaned up the air intake couplings cleaned up & the driver's side rear splash guard installed along with the new mud flaps. Yes I know the flaps are longer than what comes from the military, but I don't off road this truck so its all good...

My boots both got tears in them so I bought a set of new RockwellOffroad silicon boots to replace them. This was my first time doing the boots so I went really slow & double checked everything as I went. I only got one boot done, but will do the other one on my next free weekend. I got green boots so they should be easier to tell if they are damaged compared to the old black ones. Instead of using Duct tape to cover the spline threads, I used an old soda can (trimmed off the top) and it fit right over with no sticky residue! I swabbed out all the old grease & replaced it with Lucas Oil Red N Tacky.

My repairs were not that mechanically involved today after work, but my speakerman backup lights didn't work the last trip to work for some reason. After chasing down the problem with a VOM, I discovered the major problem in most military vehicles had settled in my lighting...a bad ground (go figure) It is all good now & maybe I won't back into anything else important @ 05:30 when getting to work.

I bought a new battery monday...$200 from my OReillys in Lubbock, TX. I thought about going with group 31s but in the end I really wanted to keep it as original as I can...so I saved some extra pennies and ordered a new 6tl.
the counter guy was telling me about another local deuce owner who is allegedly doing a 5.9 swap...now I need to find this guy so we can be M35A2 BFFs

today the weather was terrible (high 36* with rain/freezing rain). Tomorrow should be better....if all goes well, tomorrow I am going to throw on the new battery and get the truck running so I can circulate the algae biocide (I'm having my own little algae jihad) throughout the fuel system. I'm all stocked up on fuel filters so let's kill some algae!
