Happy new year folks.

Spent a decent amount of time out in the woods between the holidays.
I even had help this time.

After the second day of above frozen temps, the dump trailer ended up being more of a boat anchor than anything. Even empty, the two wettest spots in the trail became impassable and required some time consuming winch work.

Ended up taking the Mini Excavator home with me after the first bed-load that day since the dump trailer couldn't be productively utilized out in the muck anymore, and the dump bed conversion that I planned on doing two years ago hasn't happened yet for reasons unknown.

The little entrance trail we made into the work area developed an unfortunate soft spot.
Having to break out the winch on the last lap was far less effort than repeatedly having to do a 90 point turnaround each load.
Having to occasionally make new trails is why I only tack weld my mirror brackets back together instead of properly fixing them. For now of course.


For those wondering why we'd bother with such soggy ground, its really only a matter of having corresponding time off of work with my brother for the holidays than lack of planning.

Plus, I'd be lying if I told you that it wasn't fun driving through otherwise impassable trails in a heavily loaded Deuce.

Cuttin firewood and or logs for a mill is an enjoyable day in the woods for me also , my property is thawing out in the warm spell we had. I stay out of it ,as i am winchless , i have a good tractor. But getting both stuck would be bad for me . it was 9* temp this morning ,so another night like that and i’ll be back in the woods myself.
enjoy the time in the woods , it is amazing what these trucks will go through loaded , my 395’s fill up with clay mud and look like big chocolate donuts ,but truck still moves forward .

It was time to ditch the tractor muffler and put a real stack on the truck.
the truck smokes like a tractor pullin a sled at the fair !
so taking a lesson from GM back in the 80’s ,remember the belt driven air pump on the motors back then to dilute the exhaust to pass emissions?
They pump raw air into tail pipe for lower parts per million count , all the while costing the consumer less mileage ,which in turn put more emissions per mile into the air ! Brilliant !
government bought it ,looks good on paper

so a 2-1/2 “ exhaust outlet on a straight through design muffle makes good room for a 4” stack to be welded over to the body of muffler and a few holes by the junction acts as a venturi to suck in fresh clean green air to mix with the smog !
im laughing to myself as i type this even .
S/S tubing on my scrap pile ,
a new SS muffler,
a tig welder and
high temp paint
shame to paint over shiney stuff. But a deuce begs for flat colors.

i cut of the exhaust pipe as it comes through the fender , clamped on the new muffler and started fabbing the stack with a 90.
welded the stack to the outlet of muffler and added a clamp to the stack off the existing door mount bracket. I did install some vibration rubber to these modified brackets. That alone quieted the “niose” in the cab more than i expected ,and the mirror doesnt wiggle as much.

the holes i cut into the stack muff junction look like a zombie skull , i faced them to the front ,and when runnin down the road at break back speeds (53 mph) it should charge air the venturi effect .
so this is all redneck engineering at its finest and has no proven test reports.
so you all are free to pick apart this design ,lol
if i can some how convince my wife to ride in the back and take some vids of the less smog i ll post that vid when i learn how to !
i just mastered the pic upload thingy couple wks ago.

Just ordered a new set of bow storage straps for my Deuce.

The ones I had, or what was left of them were rotten.

Took them off a while ago, the new ones will look awesome, that and having a full set.

You know what they say about the little things that make a big difference,.....

Replaced 2 fan belts this morning on my truck, after a nice test drive the low needle on the volt gauge is no longer low. The existing belts were at max adjustment; otherwise, I think a tightening would have got her back in the green.

Funny timing. I just tightened my belts this morning ,same low neddle on volt gauge . my belts are couple months old ,i changed every belt when i changed the water pump. New belts stretch quick,i was eager to run truck to see if that fixed it , but noticed a coolant drip ,turns out the drain cock tee that runs the heater hose ,rusted through a pin hole. i‘m hoping i can find one in stock tomorrow, or i ll replumb the hose with a brass nipple ,brass tee , plug and 5/8 hose barb x npt , the tee will give me a place to plumb in a coolant tank heater later on .
i’m thinking on installing a digital volt gauge as a more accurate way to monitor the charging .
im not really to good with understanding dc stuff and troubleshooting them.
I’m thankful for websites like this to help people in the areas they may not be well versed in. Much experience and knowledge here .
share as much as you can ,it gives people confidence to go forward with repairs ,or ideas to modify the trucks for a wide range of uses . These trucks are very capable but have limits and older age keeps maintaining them a constant time consumer.

Hey guys I spent couple hours looking for a issue I’ve been scrolling through multiple TMS I can’t find a schematic or even a mention of it my my washer fluid does not work it looks like I have a hose missing. Theirs is a hose that comes out of my washer fluid jug through firewall to a Tee from the tee it goes 2 places to the switch and then to another tee and from that tee it goes to the switch and the other part of the tee is nothing like I’m missing something not sure where its supposed to go. Now I’m full of hot air I could run a hose from that to my mouth and blew into it i lol. Hopefully one of you guys can point me in the right direction thanks guys. And those of us getting snow tonight please be careful

I put a second spring seat in my deuce a while back to increase passenger comfort. I didn't like having just an empty space in the middle, though. So I sectioned down the bench seat to make it fit in the middle and got a kid size seat back in there, as well as a center console when it's folded down. I think it will be a good place for a couple magnetic cup holders.

I also added a Noco gen 5 x2 battery charger I got a while back. Since I don't have a slave cable, I opted to remove that wiring entirely (removes one place where you could get an unfused 24v short to ground, too) and put one of the Noco power ports in its place. The hole was the right size and it only required drilling 3 holes for sheet metal screws, which are under the original slave receptacle plate if I should ever need to revert back. Dieselfitter, there isn't really much to know about DC electrical power. All vehicles use it. In a car or truck with an alternator producing AC power, the AC current is rectified to DC current. Just think of your entire truck as being electrically grounded. The only time a ground wire to an instrument, light, or other item requires a ground connection is when it's physically/electrically isolated from the frame or body. The headlights are a great example of this because they use a separate ground connection owing to the fact that the headlight bucket is isolated for the purpose of vibration proofing. It is the same with the taillight buckets because they are plastic and therefore provide no grounding effect to the frame. All automotive gauges are DC. You only have to find a gauge that has the proper operating range for a 24v system.

Not much to say, but after getting jerked around twice and treated like a leper by the repair shop I use to do the yearly inspection on Brutus, I finally decided to try Pocono Peterbilt. Not only did Pocono Peterbilt inspect Brutus, but everyone there was nice as hell to me too. Turns out the previous owner was an MV owner!
It's been very cold here for the last couple of weeks. The night temperature rarely gets above 15 degrees and has typically been 2 to 10 degrees. My driveway got away from me and became icy (it is mildly steep). The oil delivery truck could only get about 10 feet up it even after I sanded. I put Brutus in low range with the hubs locked and EASILY climbed the same ice without spinning a tire. Didn't even muss up the sand I put down. Amazing.
