What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Installed auto meter coolant temp and oil pressure gauges, waiting for trans temp gauge to come in. Installed my kennedy glow plugs too...one step closer...next up is a perfect fuse block from a donor 1008 found in a local salvage yard!

Would love to see those gauges!

Replaced Fuel Filter, topped off fluids, basics like that.

Been having hard starting issues, did my tracking and I believe I narrowed it down to the Glowplug relay, so I swapped it out with the nice pricey Napa one. Real test tomorrow morning to see if it works.

It didn't work, still a hard start. But for some reason no white smoke this time.... more tinkering to be done tonight. Going to start testing glowplugs to see if its them.

Changed out the harmonic balancer today. It definately was not as quick or easy as some people described but was pretty straightforward. It took me about 5 hours to complete but it was definately worth the time and a few busted knuckles. I will add that it definately helps to have a buddy on hand to help.

The lift install starts tomorrow .

Six deuce tires and wheels, two white shepherds, a full tank of fuel, some fluids, big old boy in the drivers seat and some tools.... scaled at 8220. It was hauling the load easy enough and rode pretty smooth, just enough weight to take out some of the bounce.....M1008... Glen

I installed one of those large interior dome lights from an old police car in my M1009. Now there is plenty of light inside to see things in the dark.

Hey Japickar, why'd you swap out your balancer? Was yours totally shot? I have a slight vibration every few seconds at idle.. (almost like a very slight miss, but my engine runs great and it doesn't sound any different when this happens) and I'm thinking about replacing my balancer but I'm lazy. Did you find it helped?

It had a pretty good wobble at idle. I would not say it was totally shot, but I tend to let things like that bother me if I know they need attention. My engine ran fine too, but I did not want it to become a bigger problem. Just a visual inspection with it on the engine it didn't look to bad, but once I got it off you could see where the rubber was starting to push out of it and was weather cracked as well. It definately smoothed out at idle with the new balancer on.

Put in a new set of alternators from Rare Electrical and some Dayco belts. Went pretty well with the exception of some fussing and fiddling with brackets and hoses. A pair of isolated ground alts works on both sides, but you have to put the pivot bolt for the drivers side on the inside of the bracket. Truck started right up and held in the green even at idle . Took it for a test drive in civvies and passed a convoy of HMMWV's and a LMTV or two with guys in the back. Got a lot of looks and smiles. Ah, the joys of being a MV owner! Further into my test drive I was greeted by squealing brakes. Looks like I'm gonna be putting new brake pads in tomorrow. Oh yeah, the UPS Santa, I mean guy, finally came and I got some stuff for my 4" lift and some odds and ends from LMC truck.

Tiny Tach and water temp guage
All new rubber
New seats
etc...etc...etc...

Finally, all new woodland carc. Which I'm prepping for now.

Been a busy week....

In addition to the new harmonic balancer, I installed:

-new king pin bushings (ORD)
-new drag link ends
-6" Superlift springs in the front
-DIY4X shackle flip in the rear w/ 6" shackles
-Humvee radials on 9.75" wide wheels

All I have left is to bleed the brakes (I ran out of fluid to finish the job) and it will be done. Anyway, here's a pic:

How are your driveline angles? What about steering mods? Are you planning on crossover?

Drive line angles are good. I did grind the stops on the front driveshaft but it was no big deal. For now I am running a steering block as I already had it on hand, but I plan on converting to crossover steering in the near future.

I changed my glow plugs today and did an oil change it needed both bad. No plugs were stuck they all came out easy I used Delco 60G's and changed the ends to fit the new plugs. I used 15 40 shell rotundra oil and a Bosch filter. I started it up and man it ran the smoothest it has ever run.

Do a search on the resistor bypass. If your glowplug system is working properly, you don't need to do this. Mine was fried, so I did it.
