I just took mine out for a little joy ride in the snow. No drama other than I think I have a little ice in an air line of the CTIS system. It was NOT happy!

Spooling up the turbo on the brake would give you a good bit of wheel spin. :D

Other than the CTIS flashing like a cheap christmas tree the truck did fine. Very stable on the road. There is a glaze of ice under the couple inches of snow so I puttered down the road. Guess if I HAVE to go grocery shopping later I know I can make it! haha

For here thats snow. We don't get snow often so when it does happen its a big deal. The biggest problem we have here unlike places further north we don't get just snow. We get snow AND ice. The ice is where the problem really is. Driving on snow isn't so bad. Driving on ice without studded tires or chains is really dangerous. I have chains for the F350 but not for the M1081. The only reason I have chains is because I spent a couple of years in the north west working on a project. We were required to carry chains in the winter.

TO address your previous question - In my opinion the biggest issue with ice in the air system is making sure the air dryer is working properly. I know my dryer is WAY overdue for a service. Its on my list to do but I've not gotten around to it yet. Driving the truck more also keeps everything purged out and happier.

After the first drive around I took the air compressor and topped up the one tire that was a little low. I think driving it around warmed everything enough that I could see the CTIS system was adding some air to the tire along with the air compressor I was using. Once I got the pressure pretty close the controller was happy again. On my second drive to dump the trash, I saw plenty of signs of people going into ditches. There were several places I could feel the truck spin a little going up hills. I hit the MODE button on the transmission and didn't feel any more slippage.

Anyway, the truck is more stable than the F350 on tires. The F350 would be the weapon of choice if I had any critical work to do since I have a set of chains for it. The snow here is melting rapidly. A lot of the roads should be in pretty good shape by late afternoon.

In Tx do you have to have a CDL to pull the trailer? Air brakes changes things in some States.

Wish I had the cover like yours on my M1082.

Tourists treat the beach and locals like a rental car. I know, lived on Hilton Head. In Yellowstone we called them Tourons. Cross between a Tourist and a Moron.

My trailer doesn’t have the yellow ABS lamp on the trailer. If it’s there, I sure couldn’t find that rascal!

It seems that, unless I can find proof to the contrary, I will need to place a functional ABS lamp on the left side of the trailer.

As I read CFR 49 I did get confused on whether the trailer needs this lamp if the M1083A1 indicator panel has a ABS lamp for the trailer.

Who has rock-solid experience? And thank f I need the yellow ABS lamp on the trailer I’ll need to figure out how to wire that in. The ABS ECU module on the trailer hopefully has a means to “plug & play” that ABS lamp.

Today I learned trailers sometimes have ABS lamps.

Must be a California requirement..

I have a strict "don't ask don't tell" policy when it comes to such legalities as CDLs.

And as to brakes, couldn't you just cage 'em and not use the air brakes. ;)

*not like I've really done that several times but I have a Jake brake

I went not from right down, but fron left side. Due the detroit locker the truck went straight, by pressing the brake rear axle lost traction on ice and the adventure began...
Tried to winch me away from the fence, but at the same time front axle went to right over the wall.
Right tire was only last 3 inches on ground, rest was in the air. Winch brought me in this situation, initially the rear axle was near the fence).

Fire / rescue dept fixed me in the left side and with my winch I was able to get back on road.

After buying my truck last fall and fixing the worst problems on the truck (CTIS seals and new driveshaft) and driving her around on progressively longer trips gaining some confidence in her, I took her for a long trip. I Bought a M 105 trailer and fetched it. A 350 mile trip and sixty miles from home I blew my rear CTIS seals. Ugh, what a mess. Got home just fine and degreased her. Please tell me about your crane.
The crane was on the truck when I bought it. I can’t find any marking or brands on it so not sure who the manufacturer is. The prior owner welded some 4x4 (I think) steel square stock onto the bottom so it fits in any one of the four square crane receptacles on the bed of the truck. It’s 12v powered so I use two old batteries (wired in parallel) to run it. It has a 500lb capacity with the boom fully extended and 1,000lb capacity with the boom fully retracted.

I’ve used it a few times and it seems to work fine (there is a bit of delay in the wireless remote that makes fine adjustments challenging). Using it I was able to pull the starter off, service and re-affix it with just one person. I just had five new r395 tires delivered and I plan to use the crane to load them in the truck - that should be a bit more of a test for it - I’ll likely need to break the tires into two groups to load them.

Not sure if that helps - let me know if there is anything else you’d like to know and I’ll try to answer it.
