If you aren't doing anything else Monday, come on down to the Elma Veteran's Day Parade and join that one as well. Even if it's pouring rain we tend to enjoy ourselves (VFW parade entry) More trucks are always welcome.

Poulsbo has a little parade for Veteran's Day. Last year I carried the WWII vets who were the Grand Marshalls as the lead vehicle (behind PFB's giant ladder truck). This year I was scheduled to do the same but they told me a few days ago the vets are getting to an age now where ingress and egress to the M1165 isn't going to be practical, so they'll be loaded into something else. I'll be back at #19 in the formation and not sure who I'm carrying.

If thing even goes off I'll be surprised - seems very disorganized this year. It's only their second annual so I guess I got in on the ground floor last year.

Finally got around to replacing the dead marker light in the rear. Had the power wire broken off at the light, so no way to fix.
Other three lights worked, but were a little dim. I thought it was just the lenses.
Nope. As soon as I installed the new marker light, the other three went dead. Fixing the grounds for better connection didn't change anything.
So today replaced the other three marker light assemblies. All are functioning properly now.

Next thing is to assemble some relays to turn the front two marker lights into turn signals. Should be pretty simple to use a NC relay with the coil side wired to the front turn signals to interrupt power to the markers whenever the turn signal is on.
Will try with some cheap 24v relays first, and if I like it well enough if/when they decide to fail I'll either find some solid state relays that can be waterproofed or cough up the money for the ones from camotek.

My front left marker has gone dead and a fix is on my list. Was wondering if your plan was possible.. so I’ll be following this..

Honestly it took about 10 minutes to replace.

Only real issue is 2 of the machine screws on each marker were corroded to the point I had to drill the head off to remove. Screw is #10 x 24 7/8" long and used a nylock nut on the inside. The rear are 5/8" long. Parts manual gave different thread pitch between front and rear, and regular nuts instead of nylocks for the rear, but should be easy to go to the local hardware store and buy hardware that matches front and rear with rear being 3/4" and front being 1" long unless you want to special order them.
I also used NO OX ID grease on all of the mounting screws, with a bit extra on the ground one (just grease with electrically conductive additives) You could also use dielectric grease instead as it will keep the air out and the surfaces should be tight enough to make a good connection anyway.

The trick with LED marker lights is to get a constant ON relay. Then it will flash OFF when activated. That avoids issues that can occur with certain bulbs IIRC.

Yeah.
The relays I ordered are single pole double throw, and have both the normally closed side and a normally open side. Wiring through the normally closed side should give power until the turn signal is energized.

I plan to just tap into the turn signal and T off of it to make a parallel circuit , so relay gets a separate ground, rather than in series with the turn signal because I expect that would cause issues.
My front turn signals are pretty much the only thing left in my truck that aren't LED, because of the flasher issue.
