You should definitely post the "after" impressions on driving it. I've been contemplating getting mine rebuilt just because it's getting up there in age. Finding someone to rebuild mine might take some looking around, but it'd prob be worth it.
Wow, that might be one of the better paint jobs I've seen on these trucks! I really like your rear stencils too. I though about throwing a "USN" on the back of mine.
Yes we were sir! I slept like a log!
Well the numbers are in, 2232 miles, 144.8 gals of diesel. That came out to 15.4 MPG! A lot higher than I was hoping for actually. Oh and the car was on a dolly, not flat tow. As far as performance Barrman, the flat ground wasn't too bad. It almost...
Well, 2149 miles later, we made it! Ended up pussing out and taking the 80w through Wyoming instead of the 70 through Denver. Wasn't sure about the Rockies towing my wife's car. Still ended up with a few hard pulls up a couple passes in Wyoming and Utah, but the old girl held strong! Thanks...
Quick question for you highway gurus, would it be easier to take the 80w and avoid Colorado mts as much as possible? Our route right now is taking us through Denver on the 76, but looking at it I wonder if it's worth the extra time to take it easy on the truck?
Thanks for all the tips and words of advise guys. We made it out of Chicago and we're in DeMoine, IA now. Kinda a short day, but we're making progress! 360 miles, avg. 17 MPG so far. She's doing good!
I just put a hitch on my 1009, the only problems I had were getting the 2 most rearward bolts out. I just used fishing line to pull the bolts through the forward holes(my hitch came with little plates for the forward bolts which were carriage bolts.) No cutting, welding, banging or anything.
Thanks for that, I didn't even think about slow going semi's while I'm slow going. Definitely gonna keep an eye to the rear. I think we should be hitting CO around Mon or Tues, so that should be a go hopefully. Thanks for all the tips.
So according to that link, the steepest part is pulling up to the tunnel. How long is the approach to the tunnel? So it's better once you get in it?
Anybody know how about any passes in Utah? I think there's at least one stretch going through the mountains there too.
