    M1028 Small Lift Build

I did not do a thread on it, in fact I didn't find this website till after I had done most of it. The M1009 has a ProComp 2-1/2" lift with blocks in the rear. I'll get some pics up for you soon. In fact I need to update this thread with more stuff for my M1028 too.

no start / will start with a sniff of either

You need to be sure your not going to burn out a new set before just replacing the plugs. I installed a new set on my M1009 only to burn them out again because they were staying energized. Check and be sure they at powering up and turning off after the warm up period.

no start / will start with a sniff of either

If your glow plugs were working correctly the ether might have done some serious damage. If it were me and I didn't know the accurate history of the truck I would replace the glow plugs, relay, control card, and temperature sensor. Less than $200 in parts and then you know your good. I would...

    GP or maybe fuel issue?

I think your right. I believe they are one and the same.

    GP or maybe fuel issue?

I don't know of a "Glow Plug Switch" listed in the manual. Can you reference which TM and page? In any event I do not believe it is the same as the glow plug temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is mounted on the top rear left side of the head, and has 2-wires running to it. Remove the...

    GP or maybe fuel issue?

A couple of things I would try would be to replace the glow plug temperature sensor, and the glow plugs if they are old as you describe even if testing OK. Those are 2 easy things. Both can be purchased from CUCV electric. I am fairly certain the glow plugs should cycle on for a brief second...

    M1009 Opinion

Tires look good and the floors inside look good based on the pictures you provided. The rockers are a pretty common rust area for these and not hard to fix. I think $3500 is a fair price assuming mechanically there are no issues.

    Mixing Brake Fluids

In addition to the above comment I would disconnect the brake line at each wheel and let as much fluid drain out as possible into a container before refilling.

    Starter reccomendation

The best thing to do is find a local place to rebuild your original. I made the same mistake once buying a Chinese made unit off of eBay. It didn't last very long.

    Awesome Roadtrip in my M1009!

Great pics. I'll be out that direction in August, but on 2-wheels. I love that part of the USA.

    Working on my truckkkk

I like it. That tire size looks good on there.

    Temperature Sensor Question

CUCV electrics website says the stock sensor uses a single coaxle wire and the modern sensor uses a 2-pin. I think I may have been looking at the wrong sensor. The TM showed the "temperature sensor" being on the drivers side behind the alternator next to the first glow plug. This one has a...

    Temperature Sensor Question

I bought a new temperature sensor from CUCV electric and it has 2-wires verses the original 1-wire. I sent this question to them as well, but thought it might be a valuable post since my search turned up no answers. The original sensor wire is green with a black stripe though in the TM-20 it...

    Problems already with ORD

I also had a slightly bad experience with their customer service. I was sent the wrong type of U-bolts because (in their words) "most people reverse them". The problem is there is an additional part needed to reverse them which I did not order so they made an incorrect assumption. They were very...

Have you converted to 12 volt?

I converted my M1009 to 12v with no regrets. With that said I do plan to leave my M1028 24v until I run into problems with the starter, but will not purchase one of the junk 24v starters on Ebay again to replace it. As long as I can find a reputable place to rebuild my starter I will stay 24v on...

    My 1985 M1009 project

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan in place. You might consider the resistor bank bypass at some point, glow plug module, and AC60 glow plugs. Have fun

    Zero Rate Blocks

For reference, I just installed 2" lift springs in the front and 1" zero rates in back and it pretty well leveled out my M1028. My thread with pics is here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/87203-m1028-small-lift-build.html

    M1028 Small Lift Build

Keeping the stock spring capacity was one of my goals and the rear looked a good bit higher than the front. I figured the zero rates with 2" springs in the front would level me out or come close and it did. The bed sets 1" higher in the back than it does at the cab. I will probably use the...

    M1028 Small Lift Build

At this point I am going to stick with the Green. The one thing I didn't coordinate well if I were to go tan was the color for the dash and door panels. I bought colorbond in Burgundy and already did the dash, new headliner, and door panels and they wouldn't look good up against the tan color in...
