IMO, to lower egt's effectively you must increase the flow in and out of the engine. Make a more open intake, or more efficient intake with a larger exhaust from the (in this case) the header back. I don't know what the stock is on a 5 ton, but maybe a 4" or 5" with a high performance muffler...
Has anyone made the exhaust come out behind the cab of the truck or right behind the passenger door? I was thinking of doing this and putting the muffler under the truck when i own one someday. I was also thinking about the 4" exhaust and changing the air intake a little bit.
Also has anyone...
Have you measured the overall height of the tires on your truck? I ask because the tires when they were measured probably were measured on different rims than what you have on the deuce. I would be out a tape measure and get a good measurement with weight on the tires.

Do you have another truck? What i did with my tires on my truck, is i brought the rims to the shop in the back of a pickup and said i want such and such a tire mounted on these rims. they didn't ask me anymore than the rig type they were going on and i was out the door.
I was re-reading this thread and thought about your small engine under the hood idea. You could use a v-belt centrifugal clutch on the engine, so that when the small engine is off/idling, it could just free spin but but when you open it up it would start spinning the accessories. Just a...
I was thinking of that as well. It happened on my old dirt bike and it locked up the wheel going backwards only since the leading edge of the shoe digs into the drum. This could be your problem.
