How do you disconnect the Alternator

I never would have imagined that I would ask this question, but I am missing something that is probably obvious to most others. I need to disconnect my alternator and either replace it or replace the regulator. I removed the bolt to pull off the obvious cable. My problem comes with removing...

Alternator issue again, advise on upgrades?

The removed diode was a short in its blown state. You removed the short. Next time you have a high voltage it will take out the board if a diode isn't replaced. Or at least that is my understanding.

My new M931A2 sitting at my home

Thanks for the kind words. Nope, no extra goodies, but it is a very clean truck save for the mentioned items.

I want to take off the CTIS on my newly purchased 1990 M923A2

Wow, that was definitely money well spent! Did you let them remove the CTIS?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Bought a new (to me) M931A2 at GL to go with a NOS winch I purchased earlier this year. Plan on moving my M109A3 box over to it in the future. Here is a picture of that set up from a members build earlier this year.

    M1028 Alternator upgrade????

In regards to the alternator upgrades, what about the Dual 100A/50A - 24v/12v set ups if you were planning on adding a 12v circuit? I was thinking this would be perfect until I saw the price, now I am backing away slowly. I think the one I saw was over $1700 just for the alternator...

My new M931A2 sitting at my home

Forgot to mention that I had one locked tool box (thankfully). Removed the lock yesterday and got some free toys with purchase. A new jack, new chain hoist, new tool bag with new set of (very) basic tools, a lug nut breaker bar set, with one straight bar for the lug nut tool, and one that...

    Newly purchased m925

Congratulations on the new truck. Not knowing what the previous owner has done, I would at minimum go through the truck and change all fluids and filters. I have also had a deuce that when changing out the front boots, I discovered all the bearings were greased and maintained except for...

My new M931A2 sitting at my home

Recovered my M931A2 Friday and it is now sitting safely in my back yard beside my home. I had gone up earlier in the week and verified all the fluids were topped off and check over everything I could before starting it up. Came back Friday to replace batteries and start it up so I could...

    5 Ton Batteries

I replaces two old batteries and connected two new red tops in series to get 24 volt, and removed the other two dead batteries and the slave cables from the circuit. Truck started, but Voltmeter is in the red(high). Previously on the GL video where they jumped it or used the (now dead) old...

    Which task is preferable?

Yes the center panel is just bolted in. I have removed the passenger bench seat in those (bad) pictures because I replaced it with a new bucket seat. Mine came with the air shift, I was only replacing the T-case because one of the bearing cages came apart (discovered during initial fluid...

New 5 ton owner saying hi guys

Welcome to the club. I just joined it myself and I'm off to pick mine from GL today. (fingers crossed it is a boring morning of maintenance and safety checks as I prep for a super long 30 mile recovery. :)

    Which task is preferable?

I had to change out my Transfer case and used a fork lift to suspend the T-case through the floor and lower it onto a dolly. I then rolled in the new one lifted it into place and bolted it in. So yes, you want to lower it out the bottom, but if you have access to a fork lift, it was much...

How are these type of antenna tie downs meant to work?

I have one of those clips w/rope across the front of my m931A2. I was about to ask what it was for when i found this thread. Any one have a picture of configuration on a tractor or a shop truck (plan on putting a m109 box on the back in a future onfiguration)?

I was wondering that same thing when I saw that picture.

    [M1101] Front leg support pin

One of my pins came with a heavy wire triangle shaped piece to attach the chain to pin. Being able to pull it out with two finger instead of one made a big difference.
