Front axle seals and boots stepXstep

I went through a couple of bearings on my '76 Trans Am before I learned that a little loose is better then a little tight when securing the castle nut on the front spindle of that car. The procedure was to tighten it to set the the bearings then back off before securing the nut. Assume...

Hood dented when opened against cab

I leaned my hood against the cab of my deuce while changing the oil. I did not drop it on the cab and eased it against the cab. There was a light breeze that morning but it wasn't windy. When I lowered it, I noticed a deep crease across my hood and wanted to know what I did wrong? aua I...

How do you prefer your deuce?

Ditto, and I will take a pre 1986 (class III) M2 setting in my gun ring.

Possible HMMWV at Lejeune in near future

What are you talking about? Some of us would like the chance to buy surplus and restore it ourself. I understand your concern that your vehicle will be worth less with a surplus supply of HMMWVs. I still think we should be allowed to buy surplus trucks from GL, and support getting the rules...

Possible HMMWV at Lejeune in near future

I'm glad you were not part of the movement to get ammo brass off the mutilate list. I bet you would have pointed out that we can buy brass from Winchester at 3 times the cost instead of reloading perfectly good military brass. People need to understand that lawmakers will listen to the...

Front axle seals and boots stepXstep

I'm going to have to do this soon and wanted to verify the "Shock" method of tie rod removal. 1) Remove cotter pin and remove castle nut. 2) Re-thread castle nut upside down on tie rod to hold tie rod end when it pops loose. 3) Take a BFH and hit the steering knuckle sharply at the tie rod...

    M35A3 tire changing to 395/85/20 part 1

You can cut out the center bubbled out section, then use the 20 bolts around the outside to attach a plate to the wheel that has the 6 bolt pattern you need for the deuce hub. Same thing they do with the Hemmt wheel conversion. I will just have 20 bolts around the edge instead of 16. BTW, My...

Data plate ground down on GL buy

They painted over all stenciled markings, but only ground on the unit numbers and the data plate.

Data plate ground down on GL buy

No, I am through Gulfway (Travelers). It will be registered as a Former Military Vehicle in Texas which entertains the same stance as an Antique.

Data plate ground down on GL buy

Dang it. I knew as soon as I sent in the request, I would find out I was wrong.:( Request sent to GL. I will have to look into the insurance Monday since all my paperwork is at work. I hope they don't jack my rates because it is now 24 years old instead of 25. :(

    M35A3 tire changing to 395/85/20 part 1

I will use the 20 bolts that hold the wheel together. My information is that welding is a bad idea. With the amount of heat needed to make a good weld the wheel will move. Bolting will create a stronger more stable wheel based on my SME that is advising me.

    M35A3 tire changing to 395/85/20 part 1

I think with the center cut out and the plate installed on the back it would have enough offset to allow the 395s. Definitely more then the ones installed on original deuce wheels. I plan on flipping my back hubs so they all line up as well.

    M35A3 tire changing to 395/85/20 part 1

That was my plan, but I haven't gotten to that project. I do have the tires and wheels sitting on a trailer in my back yard though. :) The plan is that my brother will turn the center out of the FMTV wheels and get some rough cut plates that he can turn down to fit the inner diameter of the...

Data plate ground down on GL buy

No date on tag. I did a close up on my high res version of the picture and there isn't anything in the bottom date field.

Data plate ground down on GL buy

Here is the Blue Tag. Nothing for a date. I submitted the truck as a 1986 AM General Corporation this morning with the Serial number listed above.

Data plate ground down on GL buy

Thanks, just submitted the SF97 request from GL. What other info is on the data plate where mine has been ground and painted over? I want to order a new plate and was curious if I would be able to recover any of that info through research? Thanks, Mike

Data plate ground down on GL buy

How can I get information on my USAF truck without the data plate. I have the S/N but that is it. S/N is 1040-10443. I was going to order a reproduction data plate but would like to have the correct data for the truck on it. Also, I'm trying to fill out my SF-97 but do not know the year. I...

    Washing after new paint?

I know the water spots are calcium when I pull my boat out of the lake. A 10% vinegar in water solution will dissolve them. I have no idea what it will do to paint, this is the solution for fiberglass boats.
