Thinking of swapping out the TH400 for the NV4500. I have an opportunity right now to get the transmission with bellhousing, hydro-clutch pedals (1987), master and slave cylinders, clutch AND the 208 adapter for $1000.
I do know that I would need a flywheel and modify the floor, not a problem...
sixb,
The issue with the original starter relay, simply put, is the culprit to run-away starters. Several of us have found out the hard way by having to replace starters! This is one of the first modifications that should be done with CUCV's along with clean grounds, replacing rubber...
He is in Ely on the eastern side of the state. Tahoe made it to -8 in places a week ago.
Fact: The lowest temperature ever recorded in Nevada was -50 degrees? This plunge in the mercury occurred on January 8, 1937 at the site of San Jacinto near Jackpot.

Try a new bulb. The new bulb could reach the contacts.
Or,
Try to bend the contact in the socket. Small needle nose pliers or a small screwdriver would work. Go easy with that as the contacts can be brittle.
Try another flasher. Check the grounds again. Also, check the sockets themselves. I found a crack in one of the contacts within one of the bulb sockets. Caused all kinds of issues. Replaced and no more problems. Photo below explains.
If I am correct, there should be a weep hole on the bottom of the water pump. Just a small hole on the bottom of the pump shaft. Should be able to see it with a flashlight from underneath. See if there is coolant there. This was designed to give early warning that the inner seal and/or bearings...
this is what I did to my A1. I swap out the original 5-lug wheels and went with a custom axle since I couldn't get an A2 axle for my trailer. I have 8-lugs now on everything and can use the spare from my truck if need be. As for the height, the best thing to do is drop the leaf springs under the...
Right now I am running BFG Commerial T/A Traction on the CUCV. Pretty good bite in the snow and clean themselves well. Make sure though that if you look into these, that you emphasize "Traction". The regular commercial T/A's are more of an highway tread.

The timing and tolerances have a lot to do with the added noise when compared to the new(er) diesels. They also don't have pilot injection, which is basically pre-injection prior to the main pulse of fuel into the cylinder. My 1028 literally drowns out my Duramax along with everything else in...
By the way, you have a couple of fusible links visible in your pictures. Look for the wires with the black rubber cylinders with eye hole fasteners. You can't miss them.
An electrical fusible link is a type of electrical fuse that is constructed simply with a short piece of wire typically smaller than the wire that is being protected. They simply replace fuses in a circuit. You probably have already had your hands on one. Here are a couple of pictures. The...
Searching the posts is a good start, but have you ventured into the Technical Manuals for the CUCV's? Within the Technical Manuals (TM's) you will have to look at the Electrical Diagrams and Schematics. These can be found in Appendix F of publication TM9-2320-289-20. It's a pdf file.
Now to...
I am curious, in the future, do you plan on hauling any where near 3500 lbs.? I ask because 2000 lbs. is a lot of camping and fishing equipment. The picture is my 3/4 ton with roughly a 1000 lbs. of wood on a civy axle. If you are planning to pull weight, look into brakes for the trailer...
