    M1009 got hit this morning

I just got off the phone with them. They said they're scrapping several Blazers and will be calling me back if they have a serviceable bumper for my truck.

    M1009 got hit this morning

I'm not familiar with them, who are they? I've got a contact through Old Grouch military surplus to get a bumper, but I'm concerned that it's going to cost more to ship the thing than the cost of the part in the first place. If I can find one relatively locally I'd be happy. A salvage yard...

    M1009 got hit this morning

What do I need to tell a body shop about working on a CUCV? Someone ran into my M1009 this morning. The damage is all cosmetic (going to need a new LR quarter and rear bumper, which are NOT the most common parts, especially the bumper). Is there anything special I need to tell the body shop...

    1985 m1009

mY '84 M1009 has been my daily driver for about 18 months. I've added a lot of creature comfort things to it such as stereo, air conditioning, and a lot of insulation. It's still a noisy beast (one of my few complaints) but other than that it's a great DD. Maintenance wise it's been pretty...

M1009 Oil Leak - Need help

Mine has leaked oil from the driver's side ever since I got the truck. I consider it to be a fluid presence indication. If it ever STOPS leaking, I get worried.

What gets constant 12v under the hood, and is turned off when the engine is off?

i might end up having to wire it to my stereo/accy power switch. I didn't want to run wires to the cab and back, but I will if I must.

What gets constant 12v under the hood, and is turned off when the engine is off?

I'm thinking of setting up some daytime running lights. I'd like to wire it to something that is powered when the engine is running, and de-powered when the engine is off. That was I get away from having to run a manual switch into the cab. Anyone know of anything good I can tap off of and...

Metalic clanking sound coming from drive shaft/rear end

You guys were spot on, the rear u joint was shot. One of the spokes on the differential side was completely trashed.... Forget pin bearings, there was nothing in there but black dust. On the plus side the rest of them were good, but I went ahead and changed both ends anyway. Those things were...

Metalic clanking sound coming from drive shaft/rear end

yep, i just went out to the truck and rolled it back and forth. The joint between the drive shaft and the rear diff has a fair bit of play in it. Looks like I've got a project tomorrow.

Metalic clanking sound coming from drive shaft/rear end

LMC Truck Parts - Page 135 Is the U joint set listed on that the correct replacement? Seems too cheap, what's the catch?

Metalic clanking sound coming from drive shaft/rear end

This just started two days ago after returning from an uneventful 1200 mile round trip down to FL. On acceleration and often when changing gears from P to D or D to R I hear a fairly loud CLANG sound coming from the rear end. It sounds very much like something hitting the drive shaft or...

Replacing the running lights in the bumpers

Time to revive this thread zombie style. I'm thinking of doing the EXACT thing mentioned in the OP, and was wondering if anyone has gone through with this since the thread went dormant. What I'm thinking of doing is wiring the rear ones to the reverse light power source (simply splice into the...

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

Ok, I cleaned the CDR with WD-40 and acetone. It had a LOT of oil in it, so I figure that was the "ders yer problem" moment. Now about my fuel question?

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

I know they are tricky to find the right one... any link to a good replacement?

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

I know the tank on my M1009 is a 27 gallon tank, but I was wondering how much of it is unusable? Today I put in 25.8g, and I figured that must have been getting pretty close. Now I'm trying to figure out exactly how much is in the tank on each tick mark of the fuel gauge. I found myself...

    Getting doors properly hung

i got them done, just took some time. Those suckers are HEAVY! I found out my bottom hinge pin on both door hinges had worked itself out of the bottom hole. on top of that both body side hinges had drooped. I reset them, and the door hung much better. It still doesn't line up great, but I'd...

How deep can I safely drill into the ceiling without punching through the roof?

that's why i think i'm going to mock it up with cardboard first to create templates, then trace it on sheet metal. This project is still a ways off. I've still gotta figure out how i'm going to get electricity to it. I'm thinking of running it through the ceiling, but that would be another...

How deep can I safely drill into the ceiling without punching through the roof?

I'm considering making an overhead panel to hold switches for exterior lights, interior dome lights and a few other accessories. I know that the ceiling is two separate pieces of metal, but how close together are they from just behind the windshield to about 8" back? Will 1/2" screws do, or do...

    Show me your civilianized M1009s

It's just a rubber floor mat that came with the truck, nothing special. I originally intended to install the kit myself, but as soon as I opened the box I realized I was WAAAAY out of my league. The kit was $1000 from Nostalgic Air Parts, and I paid another $500 for the install.
