Mating transmission to engine - rant

I think you folks are going about this all wrong. Transmissions are by nature shy beasts in that they don't see daylight much. Expecting them to mate with people around, a lot of noise going on and with lights shining is a little cruel. The first thing you should do is to make sure the...

    Extended high/low shifter

I think I remember someone posting a modified lever but my memory is as short as my other equipment.:-(

    Lifting a 809 or 939 with a crane.....

Yep. I was in an ordnance unit at Fort Benning and we had cranes that would have been used had we deployed to a port for an ammo unload mission. Each crane had a spreader frame as part of it's Basic Issue Item inventory. One day out of complete boredom I read the TM that came with it and it...

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

Since I dropped that money pit (M816) like a bad habit I didn't do much more research on insuring it with anyone else. I've been with Progressive a long time and have full coverage on my M927A2 at $12,000.00 replacement value for $600.00 a year. Glad to see there is reasonable insurance out...

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

I've owned a M816 5 ton wrecker and I'm currently baby sitting an M936A2. I have insurance on all my MV's on a semi-commercial farm policy with Progressive. When I went to insure the M816 and told them it was a wrecker the lady told me that they would insure it as a "boom truck" only and if I...

Bug screens in front of deuce radiator...

Got to the local big box store and get a pre-made screen sized closest to the size of the radiator. Get metal screen (aluminum) not the synthetic crap. Make sure that you can get it behind the grill and find a way to attach it for easy removal. If you get into a swarm of bugs just watch the...

Need to know what series this 1991 AM general 5 ton is?

I've never seen a stock 900 series 5 ton with a manual transmission. Either the OP is mistaken or the truck has been modified. Or course it could also be some kind of prototype which might make it a rare collectible. If it has been butchered (modified) then everything else is suspect. If it is...

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

Welcome to the wrecker club. I don't know if you have checked into insurance but you will may run into problems insuring it as a wrecker. Ask me how I know. auaauaaua And you will use it far more for a "boom truck" than you will as a wrecker.

In a quandry....Go custom 923A2 or Nice shape HEMTT.....

They are when they run out of a particular type. When was the last time you saw brand new 900x20 (deuce tires) on any of the surplus sites? Get them while they're hot.

    Hard top glass

Any glass company can cut flat glass panels. I'd upgrade to safety glass while I was at it.

In a quandry....Go custom 923A2 or Nice shape HEMTT.....

I put a lot of miles in on HEMMT's when I was in Korea and they are awesome trucks as long as someone else is doing the maintainence and buying the fuel. The Detroit Diesel is like a Harley....if it's not leaking oil from every orifice you better put some in it because it's empty. It is also a...

Took my Bobbed Deuce down the 1/4 mile track today... (timeslips inside)

When I had my bobber I found the best way to drag race was by starting off in Low Range 3 hitting 4 and 5 upshifting to High Range dropping back to 4th and then up to 5th. I still wasn't the fastest thing on the road but I took a lot of people by surprise.

    M923A2 info search

It's my understanding that most of the vehicles that went to the Second Gulf war and after never came back due to condition, cost to ship back and replacement with up armored vehicles. A lot of equipment stayed there and rotating units drew them and used them while they were there. They had...

Anyone put cruise control in their trucks?

I have used the throttle lock as a "Redneck Cruise Control" but it is not recommended since it won't disengage if you hit the brakes. Depending on conditions and traffic cruise control can be dangerous. Just my 2cents for what they're worth.
