Any easy way to tell if I have lockers?

I pulled up the manual and it doesn't say anything about lockers, but when you pull up the parts breakdown, it shows a "no-spin" differential that looks like a locker. I guess this means that all M915A1s had lockers in both axles.

I was looking at the door panel tags on my 1984 M915A1 and found two warning tags about use of Detroit Lockers. Does this mean that my truck has lockers in it? If so, was this standard or did I just get lucky?

The axle shafts have centerdrill holes in each end. If you have a friend with a lathe, set each axle up between centers, rotate the axle and measure the run out with a dial indicator. Will tell you very quickly if your axle shafts are bent. It is extremely unlikely that the shafts are bent...

When frame shop said bent axle, they most likely meant bent axle tube on the housing-not bent axle shaft.

Thanks. Your truck looks much better than my straight OD M915A1, although my color is just as good at hiding the truck. Almost flattened a ricer merging in front of me at 35MPH on the freeway with nobody behind me. Didn't know it was possible to make so much tire smoke without jackknifing.

Is the camo paint job on the M920 factory? Looks like it has a lot more black than most camo jobs.

My 915A1 is a CCC(Crane Carrier Corp.) cab, a division of AM General when it was made.

Keep in mind that a stock M818 will really struggle to run the speed limit if it is loaded. Can't beat the "look" though! M915A1 much more practical, but oh so blah looking.

The deck height at the rear of the trailer is 55 inches. The height at the front will be about 64 inches using an M818. The springs are so stiff the height will not change with a deuce on it. See my write up on ramps for the M871...

Mine does the same thing only it's on an M915A1(400 Cummins) but the compressor is gear driven in line with the IP.

I'm assuming that you are running singles. If so, don't put the small tire on the rear because the forward and back rear axles are locked together by the driveshaft. The axle with the smaller tire will try to turn at a higher rpm than the axle with the regular tires on it. It will lock up the...
