"How to get a HET in life..." - M1070 Acquisition thread

British truck. We sold the HETT's to our allies that were dumb enough to buy them.

    A better cup holder

Ditto. Holds my favorite "Mickey D Sweet T" cups and won't turn over if you have a full roll. I set it right by the shift tower in the M927.

Civilian tires and wheels, leaving ctis complete but plugged off? M931

You can insert plugs on both sides of the drum like I did. Save all your parts and you can re-install if you go back to original wheels. You will also need to plug or disconnect the airlines that run into the valve bodies that send air to the axles.

809 or 939 series trying to decide

I now prefer the 900 A2 series with hardtop. Much quieter, better fuel mileage, bigger cab and the flip front end makes maint a whole lot easier than standing on your head to work on the engine in an 800 series.

CBR Metalworks M920 hauler 'Mad Max'

If you put a dump set up on it the added spacing might work.......plus if you wanted to load a smaller vehicle in the bed you could angle it up and drive right up the ramps. Drop the bed, fasten it down and boogie (prob have to be a low profile vehicle).

Easy pressurized fuel cap mod for fuel system testing and bleeding

If you own anything with a two stroke Detroit in it and you don't have a cap with a valve stem in it you will hate living the first time you run it out of fuel. All of our HEMMT's in Korea had that setup on them.

    First MV, and a 5ton! Just purchased a M817

Welcome to the wonderful world of 5 tons.:cookoo: Hope you have a strong back. Crank it up and drive it up on the trailer. If the batteries are dead and there is another 24 volt truck on site (and if you have slave cables) you can slave it off). If you don't have slave cables make sure it's...

    I'm a 5 tonner now :)

Welcome to the 5 ton club.....I hope you have a strong back. The transition to a 5 ton from a deuce is not too big of a learning curve. They are a little wider, taller and heavier but the visibility is better (IMHO) than in a deuce. Getting used to the air brakes takes some doing as they are...

Mntsnow's recovery and building of The Beast

Be very careful removing the CTIS to change the tires. Many of the parts are made of "unobtanium" and would be hard to find on short notice out in the field. They are brittle and break easily if that 500 pound tire bangs up against them. We had to call a guy to change a CTIS tire at Redstone...

    Recovery rear tire inflation issue

Be advised that if the batteries are too low you can damage the alternator by running it with dead batteries and you may have an issue with lights. If it dies and you don't have another 24 volt vehicle with a set of slave cables you will be dead in the water unless you swap some hot batteries...

    I scored a M923a1

Welcome to the 5 ton club....I hope you have a strong back.

"How to get a HET in life..." - M1070 Acquisition thread

I'm seriously thinking about calling Bastard Card and upping my limit and buying one. That way I know several creditors that will be crying at my funeral.:-D

    Building a Tank??

Years ago when the first "Ripsaw" came out I got track fever. I emailed those guys and got the bums rush. They do not play well with others, especially since they have been on several TV shows and became a gooberment contractor. Someone mentioned using the running gear out of a Bobcat. I have...

CBR Metalworks M920 hauler 'Mad Max'

Once you get proficient with the CAT transmission you'll love it until you have to work on it. Very few CAT techs have ever seen one and very few were use in civy applications except in scraper pans. Parts can be hard to find but we have a CAT tranny guru here (RJracing) I think is his avatar...

What is the max weight a M923a2 can handle

He should consider an M916 or M920. Take off the back winch, stretch the frame and install all the goodies. Both trucks are already set up for a PTO and either would hold the weight.
