    Land Train???

Ferro, You are correct about the diesel/turbine electric motive power. Each wheel on the rig was powered by an electric motor. I'm sure there had to be a lot of servos and other control systems to steer the beast when it was in motion. I don't know if any of the stuff I saw in Yuma is still...

    Land Train???

Since it is near Fairbanks and there is access to roads, it could be shipped via truck to the lower 48......at what cost is another issue. It would take several tractor trailers to move all the pieces. Also would it be feasible to get it to operating condition or just make a static display...

    Wreckerman's Spring Fling

James......thanks for being the unofficial documenter of the event......I was busier than a one-armed house painter and only got to shoot a few pics. If we do this next year I will find another route that is just as scenic and a little flatter. All the drivers did an excellent job of...

    Land Train???

I think it would take a corporate sponsor (are you listening GL) to recover and restore as much of one complete train as possible. Would be awesome to see one (even with only the control car and one or two trailers) in operating condition.

I just won this trailer...Any ideas what it is for sure?

Seven......not a bad idea at all.......I keep some fuel stashed myself. You might get a local fuel distributor to deliver a large amount and put it straignt into the tank. That would protect you from the liability of hauling it on the road. Many farmers around here have their own fuel tanks...

    Well,now I own a 915A1

Actually it is not nearly as bad as it appears.......the only cancer was on the drivers side hood panel.....the rest is surface rust....since she made a trip to the Sandbox I suspect she may have gotten some salt water on her during the journey.

I just won this trailer...Any ideas what it is for sure?

Not to rain on your parade.....it is a nice find.....but.........be aware that if you use it to haul fuel (or other flammable liquids) on public highways it will have to have HAZMAT placards on it indicating what class of hazard in inside. It may also cause you insurance headaches. A fuel...

    lightweight Shelter Maintenence Tent

My ex had more shoes than Emelda Marcos. I don't know how much weight that frame will hold but I have one of the old Maint Tent frames and I intend to put metal siding on it since I don't have the canvas. Should look like one of the old Quonset huts. The one you got is tougher than...

    Wreckerman's Spring Fling

Well......I am happy to report that the Spring Fling was a rousing success. The convoy folks met at the appointed spot and after a meet and greet we rolled out to view the scenery and decend the back road off the mountain. We stopped at a scenic overlook and I forgot to snap pics but I'm...

    Land Train???

There was one in a junk yard in Yuma, AR many years ago. I talked to the owner and he had a picture of the vehicle crossing a sand dune when it was being tested. He bought the thing for pennies on the dollar.....the whole thing was mostly aluminum and one of the guys on the yard said it was a...

    Buying From GL?

I look at it like this.....if I dropped 2500 bucks at a casino and lost I would have nothing to show for it, if I put 200 bucks down some pole dancers G-string I'd have nothing to show (well nothing I would want to show)........if I drop a few grand at GL I have a reasonable chance of having...

    Storage Tank Dimensions

The pump unit sits right at the back of the bed....the two tanks sit on the floor on the truck and are tied together with a hose. You can use the 24 volt pump by hooking it to the slave adaptor on the truck or rig it to gravity flow.

Dallas Mavis, anybody ever use these guys?

9' 2" truck = 108 inches tall plus 40 inches trailer deck height equals 12' 6" That would make the top of the truck 12'6" so it would be a foot under max highth )13'6". The load would be legal.....just have to watch for low clearances otherwise you might end up with a convertible deuce. I...
