My understanding is that current road diesel is too low in Sulphur to lubricate the injector pumps of these old engines. I have been using 2-stroke oil as a fuel additive for years but am facing a 2000 mile drive, so the pump will be moving a lot of fuel.
Two questions:
If the retaining plate cracks, can the HH still function as long as the plunger is free? (Thinking in the event that a road-side, expedient repair is needed.)
What is the best (only?) way to turn the motor by hand to line up the marks, once again assuming the need for a...
With most of the zinc gone from today's engine oils, what is recommended for my multifuel? Do I also need a zinc additive and if so, how much?
I will be taking a long highway trip and expect to be using all road diesel. What lubricity additive is recommended these days? I have been using...
That makes sense that a factory setup would have provisions for shutting off the fuel. I am not sure how OP will accomplish that or if it is not considered necessary, in which case I still wonder if even idle fuel accumulating in the exhaust could not pose a problem.
Super, thanks for that.
When the engine is Jaking or Pacbraking, isn't fuel still being injected into the cylinders? Potential washdown or wet fuel in the exhaust that can ignite when you get back on the throttle? How is that handled, especially like in a retrofit as OP is building?
Thanks, cool, a Jake Brake selectively keeps some or all exhaust valves open.
OP seems to be doing something else. Unless I am mistaken he has a butterfly closing off the exhaust. There is obviously more to it; how does OP's setup work?
You rang?
There were indeed top oil injectors for upper cylinder lubrication. They used engine vacuum to pull in a light oil, typically MMO.
There were also firewall mounted glass w/s washer fluid bottles. And oil bath air cleaners. And alcohol-water mixture bottles to control detonation on...
Static display means the engine might even be able to start and the rotors spin, but not to come off the ground even an inch?
What a hobby we have here. From $2500 Deuces all the way up to mega-million helos.
Rich or poor, it's nice to have money.
OP, here is my suggestion.
If you do not need to get somewhere 'right now' - and it sounds as if you do not - 55 mph plus is plenty. My M35A2 with super singles is very happy at about 57 mph or so. It is a sweet spot that the truck likes, and I have seen as high as 10 mpg.
Add your own...
I'm on board with that. I most always add 2-stroke oil unless a good fuel conditioner is at hand.
I was passing a diesel station and that got me thinking about what low-sulfur diesel actually means to us.
AFAIK the mainstream opinion regarding lubrication of the injection pumps on our multifuel Deuce engines is that yesterday's pump diesel had plenty of sulfur to lubricate the pump, and today's low-sulfur pump diesel does not.
So, add something (2-cycle oil, a fuel additive, whatever) to the...
Well, my simple and straightforward observation sure seems to have struck some nerves.
Look, it's so simple: If the clutch was engaged and the tires were turning, then the Deuce moved the load. If the Deuce was parked, then the winches moved the load. The Deuce was involved in that the winches...
