Just a simulation.... no real FMTV was harmed.
But, there has been some deaths over last couple years in America with folk who had a blow out in a u500 Unimog. With this in back of my mind; while reviewing some things came across the below "blow out" driving vid. A device that might help...
Anyone know anything about this shelter? Can't find any other pics like it anywhere. Seller says it's Fiberglass and thought it was off an 800 or 880 but??? .
Thanx in advance for any help. Want to know if it is insulated sandwich or?? ...... seller seems to really know nothing about it...

Where do the 3116's in FMTV commonly fail
These trucks are getting older and common failure points are bound to begin showing up as described below.
NOTE: Took this from another thread so not to hijack it.
Can you be more specific please...
On last trip discovered one headlight out. (hi and low).. attempted to pull the light and the wires at each connector to truck harness to test with meter. That was a no go for they certainly did not want to separate even with a solid tug. Are these Pull-a-part, Packard like connectors or crimps...
Not sure when (year) it happened or even at what frequency (how many models) but at some point the rear and possibly front axles switched from leaf spring perches that were separate from the axle tube to being an integrated part of the axle tube.
Does anyone have a rear axle on their truck...
POP ... preparation opens possibilities.
so if I prepare for ability to fit her in a shipping container some day..... then maybe if I Rob a bank I can ship her off to New Zeland for a journey.
With Unimogs, folk have made rims out of wood and scrap rims to drop the height to go in a container...
hmmm.... some seem to say a rig designed for Over-landing use you might should stick to UNDER 11' better yet closer to 10' max. For Expedition/RVing travel there is usually an Alternate route to take so higher may work fine for that. (Example: bridges in OR have been reported to be where 11' is...
Turret Bubble option
Some of the older Fire Unimogs had a Turret hole in Hardcab like the FMTV family as well. But with a plastic bubble* then again also smaller. From what I read it was to help co-pilot see above the smoke.
Might be an novel idea for Expo camper builds or various other...
Starting to dig thru TM's and pages here for the various Specs on the T/Case to Intermediate Axle and want to make sure I don't miss anything since the spec info in the TM's may fall in various locations . So with that in mind if anyone knows any of the specs for them or even the 1078 family...
did a rather large search to see what was on the board already and didn't see much that got into the details of where LED may NOT be the best way to go beside power saving. Am no expert on the subject so just going to pass on below info that might enlighten some folk to when LED may not be best...
Seen some differences. Is it just different years? Or different kits? purposes for each are?? Any preferences to which one you think is more advantageous esp. if thinking of use as a future Expedition like Camper
M1078 LMTV 2-1/2 ton standard cargo truck by Ian Abbott, on Flickr...
RE: circled item on back of Offset Gear Box on Intermediate 6x6 axle.
Curious what this is... vent? (but it looks electrical) Oil pressure? Speed sensor? Axle Temps?
Thanks in advance for guidance.
There was a model number change. from MD3070 to 3700sp. The Transfercase bolted on the end also got a model number change. Allison rep told me there was no difference in TCase as far as he knew but could not offer more since it is still under military contract.
I suspect one change may be that...

Looked to see if similar thread existed but didn't find one. If there is; Moderator feel free to merge this into that thread.
1. For TM search purposes- what is the unit, Gear box?? Relocation Box?? called on the Intermediate rear 6x6 axles that allows input of drive shaft to be higher above pumpkin and of course allows for a secondary drive shaft to similar box on the rear most axle. Does the one on the rear axle have...
I did search first. If I missed a good thread on topic in my search feel free to just hit me over the head and hint at a link or better search terms. (I used google adv. search)
Anyway..... am going to end up with two sets of hubs. One on the truck is for basically Road Racing :driver:via a Hub...
