This is a great thread. It really makes me think about pulling the trigger on a similar swap for my M1009. I think the Blazer with a manual transmission would be awesome. Although I suspect with the 3.08 gearing, I'd be better off running an SM465 with the granny first gear for...
I eliminated those stupid plastic caps on mine and tapped out both ports on the filter base for 1/4" fittings and installed brass needle valves. Filter changes are now a one person, no mess, 5 minute affair. Well worth the effort.
So not being satisfied with the bolt on bumper hitch the previous owner installed. I picked up a proper frame mounted 2" hitch receiver for my M1009. Its a Curt, required no drilling, bolted on using an exsisting hole and an exsisting bolt from the rear shackle mount. Cost around $150 with...
Ok, that's basically what I'm looking at doing. Did you make your mounts though the center/roof of the top? Or on the radiused Edges on the side. It looks like the top can handle the load. And many suggest mounting it to the edges as they are stronger than the roof by itself. But my research is...
So I'm thinking of building a full roof rack/cargo basket setup for my M1009. And plan on also installing a roof top tent. My question is, does anyone have an idea of what the hardtop can handle weight wise. I know most commercially available load bars are for 300-500lbs. I will likley make my...
If you are like me and the windshield wipers on your truck operate properly in all other functions but simply don't return or self park when shut off. Give this a try. In my case simply cleaning the outside electrical connections or checking grounds didn't work. I started by taking the...
Yes I agree these trucks are far a few inbetween. 2k is a lot for a repower when these trucks only sell for a few thousand running. Surplus military crate engines may be cheap. But offer no guarentees. And a gas conversion is quite a bit of work. And I'm sure it's possible, but I don't see...
It's deffinatley going. Where it goes depends on what I can do with it. The truck needs other work. It has some rust typical for the body style and some mechanical issues. No issues that stopped me from driving it on a almost daily basis. But they are there. Im not a dishonest person. I dont...
Thanks, I do have a lot into it. But I always knew I'd never get it back. It was a fun learning experience. If I sell it whole I wouldn't be looking for too much more than scrap value.
So while driving to the store earlier today my engine took a dump. Threw a connecting rod or more likely a wrist pin. Luckily for me i was close enough to home to tow it myself and beat a tow fee. So now I find myself with the dilema of sell it whole, if I can find someone who wants it. Or...
Great info, gonna do this to my truck as well. Anyone know of a place I can get the raised/domed floor scetion under the seat (M1008) other than cutting a section from a truck in a junkyard? Need to do some floor, rocker, kick panel, cab corner repairs.
Plus, I doubt the tiregate would clear the shackles on a M1008 or M1009 bumper. I want one for my M1008 and considered the tire gate myself. But for the money they ask. I can build a much nicer one for less. or nicer to me anyway. Just trying to work out the design now as to not block or have to...
Are you still using the magnesium beadlocks or the rubber ones? Well I agree with you on tire psi, but I've had people swear to me that the studs have pulled out of the wheels at higher PSI's. I have read a few stories of people buying radial tires and the bead is too thick and the wheels don't...
So I'm currently running 8 bolt HMMWV double beadlock wheels and Goodyear Wrangler RT II military 36x12.5x16.5 bias ply tires on my truck. In a word, they suck. The tires bounce and give way too much negative feedback on the highway. Yes they're balanced properly, and no there's nothing wrong...
Very cool, this news just made me very happy. Gonna Order up a hooker exhaust kit, and some stainless steel 50 series flowmaster mufflers (cuz they're only 8 bucks more than the steel ones).
I can sum up the military 36's in two words. They suck! Mine were new when I got them. They are out of round which is common with them. They are very hard to balance. Yes they are noisy but I don't mind that. They bounce on the highway. Their only redeeming qualities are they are great off road...
