Check out that website and on page 13 (and earlier pages) of the catalog is the latch for the rear of the cab of the FMTV's. At least it looks like the same latch.
This sounds like the very common hard downshifting due to too high engine idle speed. Many of us had to adjust (lower) idle set point on the linkage and also free up the linkage to the pedal so engine speed would drop. try lifting the accelerator pedal with a toe as you decelerate.
MGKMartin, my CTIS lights would not come on until I swapped out Relay 52. The socket had a 4 pin relay in it but needed a 12v 5 pin relay (type 3). Like yours, the CTIS worked fine, just no lights.
[edit: mine is a first gen, 1994, so may be different. Thanks to Suprman for noting differences]
Do you ever stow the beds sideboards in their storage slots under the bed? If not, like me, you can cut a couple of pieces of plywood to insert into the lowest slots of those storage compartments (now bottomless) and slide stuff in there. For your pioneer tools, maybe mount the tool brackets...
TNriverjet, the Knoxville Military vehicle club had an annual outing this past weekend at Fall Creek Falls. We had 3 FMTVs start on our trailride on Saturday! Maybe that's the most FMTVs assembed in TN outside the military!?
I am sorry i did not spot your thread earlier. Maybe you can join...
Ditto, dolly, as in freight card, luggage cart, etc. A search found this, with similar wheels.
A long tongue allows a long bed, for lighter but bulky stuff.
When you said "the military must have had some reason", it raises the question if there is a database somewhere that would disclose the complete list of failures for FMTV trucks over the years, probably by year. Bet that information is collected and used to make decisions like replacing fan...
Getting air to the trailer gladhands requires the truck controller brakes off (yellow knob) and also the red trailer controller enabled. Be sure to have chocks under the tires because the truck will roll otherwise! This is a terrible way to have to use to get air for tires.
I have seen a...
I put an Alaskan camper on mine and travel the country. It is also my daily driver when I'm home. It pulls down trees just fine, too! Best pulling truck I ever had.
Hope you have a lot of tachometers :-)
Say, I have an idea, have her talk to my wife. We just made an LMTV drive out to Denver from the Knoxville area. She had a nice time she said! But she flew home. Maybe that was a statement?!?!? (Actually, she had to get back for an appointment she had...
Montanajed, I had mine in MT a couple of weeks ago, based out of Ennis for a week then came through Boseman. As they say, timing is everything, and sorry we didn't cross paths.
You said 4 people. As you know, the LMTV is a 3 seater but that space where the gunner's seat is could handle a...
Found the source of a couple more air leaks that I'll describe here. Look at TM 9-2320-365-34-1, Figure FO-2 pneumatic system schematic. Air was leaking from the front emergency gladhand. The nearest component in line behind the gladhand is a one-way valve. To get to it, must remove front...
That's a winner! Are those limb guards original? Funny picture "this is bad!" Yes it is. Some positions just don't feel good and that looks like one of them, even though the Mog is comfortable and safe at that angle. Did you drive out? If not, is there a good story :-)
Bob
PS: I like...
RAJLMTV, how does that valve-looking part attach to the stem coming out of the wheel? Looks like o-ring seal? I have one wheel set up like that (all others have that valve parallel to the wheel, not perpendicular) and the joint is damaged beyond repair. It looks to have been jammed together...
The Goodyears do well on the highway. I have run Michelins on Unimogs, including going through 3 complete sets of XL's on a U1300 in 100k km. If you run maximum pressure, or close to it, the Michelins do wear 'lumpier' and make a lot of road noise. Criss-cross rotation helps because the...
