What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well, I finally did something. Removed the rear driveshaft and skidplate on my SECM clone M1008. Drained the transfer case and made a little mess then found I didn't have any absorbent. Need to go fetch some. Finally going to remove the broken SM465 and put the NV4500 in.

    M51 Clutch adjustment

Glad you got it in there. They can sometimes be quite finicky. Fun story, a great number of years ago a group did an M35 engine swap at the GA rally. Those poor souls fought with getting that trans slid in for a good long time. As they were getting more frustrated, I asked if I could give it...

    M35 locking hubs question

The 3rd lockout can save you a bunch on tire wear too. How many folks roll out tire circumference and properly match your tires? How many know how? If you have 8 identical size tires, the point would be moot but nobody does. Lets see if someone knows the formula I posted on the MV Mailing...

    Denton NC 2021

Never thought about fees. How much do they charge just for a day? I'd like to come up Friday but have to head out the same day for an appt in GA.

    Check before you buy!

I kinda knew it was backwards but it's been a long time since I've dealt with them. Other than all the work adjusting ropes and end curtains, I like the 3 pc covers better and they are solid green rather than camo. Let me also add that I find it easier to install end curtains first. Looks great.

Is the boom travel lock support tubes the same on all the wreckers crane trucks? M108 the same as M62 or M543?

Funny story about the boom supports. When I bought my M108 way back, I piggy backed it with my deuce tractor. There were probably 3 sets of boom supports with it. Well, before travel, I never bothered with putting the boom supports in place. A while later I'm cruising down I-75 running...

    Check before you buy!

Certainly not a 5 ton cover, its too short. How far down does it go on the passenger side? It sure looks like its on backwards to me. It takes some time and adjusting to get them just right. Do you have end curtains?

Is the boom travel lock support tubes the same on all the wreckers crane trucks? M108 the same as M62 or M543?

Good to see you posting again. I'm fairly sure they iunterchange but I think 5 tons have some adjustment. The M108s are all one piece. Did you buy Rizzo's M108?

Got all my M35A2 LED lights working....for a little bit. Anyone worked on LED's with success?

Also to note, specifically to front lights, grounding it to the mount won't always be good. The way the fenders are attached, rust and spooge could affect the ground path.

    Brake Issue M51A2

    Thanks brother.

    Brake Issue M51A2

Thanks, I am acutely aware of the need to drain air tanks. I may just open up the can and see how it looks. If not bad, maybe hit it with a dose of air tool oil. If I can't resolve it, I'll likely just rebuild it. I may, however, call on you to bring the air pack to Denton just in case.

    Brake Issue M51A2

So, I finally mustered up the courage to move the M51A2 to my sister in laws house. It's been parked at the VFW for a couple of weeks. Prior to this it was at my church until I got it running. Driving around the parking lot at church it seemed to have a catch in brake pedal travel. I would...

Fusebox fix for headlamps fuses blowing or arcing.

While it doesn't address the already melted fuse box, one of the preventative cures is a relay harness for the headlights. Read the thread that Salty dog posted, there is a link in there to the harness.

I will have to tow 1031A - Anyone tried (what do you think) a tow dolly?

When I bought my M1008 way back when, I flat towed it from Baxley GA to Union Point GA then back to West Palm Beach FL. I thought about removing the driveshaft but went another route. I had Kert at DYI4X cut me some block off plates for where the axle shafts bolt to the hub. I simply used an...

I too, am curious about the demise of the M108 and the pipeline headache rack behind the van. Truck looks great Jon.

    Un-Preserve Multifuel

It would take quite a while to find the papers documenting the design but here is the idea behind it. These trucks were designed to be able to function in every climate. Part of the design was extreme cold (Arctic Cold). The engineers thought of many things including some pretty interesting...
