air brakes release with engine not running

Stating the obvious here, but in the interest of safety since you won't be in the cab when you attach the air hose, make sure the parking brake is set before you add air, as the truck may roll when the spring brakes release.

How to respond to unsupportive comments?

Tell them "Maybe that was your experience, but I've read the TMs and know how to drive and maintain it correctly". OR "Even with a blown engine and exploded transfer case, it is still worth 1/2 what I paid for it. Until then, my time with it is priceless. How does your new pickup compare...

IronPlanet.com Selling Military Rolling Stock SOON!

They have "Iron-Clad Assurances" on most of the lots, but for non-running items it is meaningless. Essentially, they are guaranteeing that what you see in the photos are on the item. You need EUC's for 30 year old Chevy pickups now?

IronPlanet.com Selling Military Rolling Stock SOON!

GovPlanet has just posted unspecified lots with photos and descriptions at unspecified locations this morning. The starting prices for trailers are higher than I've paid for the same trailer on GL auctions last month. Some truck starting bids are also higher than I've paid for the same trucks...

What have you done with your 5 Ton

Old thread that needs to be resurrected. My farm tractor stopped running while spreading rye grass seed, and I'm working on trying to get it fixed. In the meantime, the horses ran out of hay last night and I needed to set out a couple of round bales this morning. I decided to try to use...

    m923a2 brake issue... help/advice needed

I have a M931A2 that will sometimes not release one or more wheels if it sits for a week or so. When your air gets above 60-70 psi, take a hand maul or sledge hammer and tap the hub ends of the stickking wheels. If that doesn't release the spring brake, make sure the parking brake is set and...

    Deciphering M939-series Serial Numbers

I only have ser. numbers for fourteen A2 wreckers, but 36/00542 is the latest I have for 1990, 36/00717 is the earliest number for 1991 and 36/00878 is the last I have for 1991. I can't read your serial number. If your number is 36/00415, it is 1990, and if it is 36/00915, it is probably 1991...

huge yard with hundreds? of mv's in Rolla Missourri

Unfortunately, after a collector dies, often the heirs are in a hurry to split up the estate and get the fast cash. Guns, tools, coins and jewelry go to pawn shops (who are happy to take advantage of widows, IMHO), vehicles go to craigs list if only 1 or 2 or the scrap yard for old rusty iron...

    Price trends of m939's

I honestly thought the prices would return to normal when GL was allowed to resume truck sales. I have no idea why the prices are often double or more what they were before the sales were halted since there is no reason for panic buying. I haven't been able to bid high enough to buy anything...

Newb roaded M816 from CO to WY

All good points. I was recovering a M931A2 and switched from one tank to the other and came to a halt about 8.5 miles later. It took another day to figure that the truck would run fine on one tank, but not the other. It takes a lot of priming and cranking to get it running again after you run...

    Bad battery

Don't be so quick to toss the Hawkers, since they can often be brought back from the dead. Search here on threads about Hawker batteries and how to charge them. I had 4 with the volts so low they wouldn't take a charge from a smart charger, but put 2 of them on 1.5 amp and 2 amp chargers for 2...

Come on guys, need more photos. It's been almost 2 days since the last update. I'm stuck taking care of the critters while my wife is away and couldn't come. I told her next year this weekend is MINE! Y'all have fun and be safe, but TAKE MORE PHOTOS!
