    Olympic Peninsula

This weekend was a trip up and around the Olympic Peninsula. Camped out, hit Rialto Beach, and had a good time. Nothing note worthy about the truck other than I noticed the left turn/brake wire is not functioning so I'll have to run that down with a quickness. I know it's not the light cluster...

    Fire Extinguisher

The extinguisher was missing from my LMTV, and the bracket was broken (part of the hinged deal was missing). I am sure any extinguisher would do, but I wanted it to be original for whatever reason, so I tracked it down. The bracket is an Amerex 861H. I don't know what exact extinguisher the...

M939 CTIS Reprogram, Anybody Done It?

I still think it's simpler to just replace the ECU entirely.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I got new visors installed in mine today. Passenger-side one was missing when I got the truck, or never installed since it was missing the nut clips. People were complaining. Wear sunglasses, I would say. Some days it's the little things, right?

    Helmets When Driving

I have CVCs to loan to passengers. So far no complaints about comfort. Seem to really like the noise reduction & the intercom. I switched my comtacs to the ACH mounts instead of the headband recently and mounted to the opscore, way more comfortable, and much easier to take on/off.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Perhaps worthwhile to get something like a movin-cool or other portable A/C or even a cheap window A/C and rig something up with a duct hose to blow into the cab. I don't know what your land situation is there but getting some shade up couldn't hurt either if it's sitting out in the sun. Even...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Jelly. I really want one but the CDL requirement is sort of keeping me away.

CB and AM/FM radio using wip antenna

I have a Harris RT-3183 30-500mhz antenna which fits into the standard mount and visually isn't very distinct from any of the other military antennas. It only works marginally on CB for TX, the S meter is pretty high, although I can be heard. It works well through the remaining ham bands and...

    Oregon High Desert

Yep. If you are into the geology thing there are some unique formations down there. Particularly around John Day.

    Oregon High Desert

Just returned from a memorable 5-day, 1200 mile camping adventure w/ the LMTV. It did great - zero flat tires! Visited Hole-In-The-Ground, Derrick Cave, Ft. Rock, Crack-In-The-Ground, Green Mtn and made significant off-pavement miles. The heat was really something - 106 is the highest I saw -...

Solo Tire Mounting The Easy Way

So I was mounting up another 395/85R20 for my LMTV, and I was doing it alone. The bead was stuck pretty good and I don't own a bead breaker. Yes, there are lots of tricks - sledges, tire irons, soap and water, swearing. Well this is what I came up with. This is a cheater method and if you have a...

Has anybody made or found a 24v tow light?

Always best to prefer a SS seller, but, a certain internationally recognized auction site has a lot of tow bar lights up right now. Just search for "military tow light".

    LMTV Lug nut size

I had no problem with the jack sinking into the soft wet (recently/currently raining) conditions with the block you see in the photos. The first couple pumps it settled a bit and then it was fine. When you think about it really if the contact area is roughly as much as the tire... it's no different.

    LMTV Lug nut size

I think an 8 ton would do the job fine even at gross weight. The 20 is just what they had - if anything it helps that the length of stroke is probably longer than the smaller 8 ton. I do recommend people try to change a tire at home before they have to do it in the field! It's not hard...
