    Deuce 3053A tranny rebuild issue

Your rear output bearing may not be fully seated on the MS, at this time? Once the spacer and flange are installed and the nut torqued to specs, everything should be in correct position, with a safe gap between those two gears.

    preventable rear suspension failure

Sorry Greg, the way you responded to Orren's post #52 made me believe that you did not take your time to think about it...? But its OK, it happens to all of us. Still unclear to me: In this post you emphasized that it had to be a "high pressure grease relief valve" and yes, there are some that...

    preventable rear suspension failure

OK, what if we added this phrase:...."but if you pump in grease normally (by using a REGULAR HAND PUMP) you will get grease coming out the back, without damaging any seals"... Think about this, Rusty: how else would the operator be able to "flush" any old grease out of the inner bearing? Just...

    preventable rear suspension failure

Yes, some old grease... and then clean grease will soon follow. It doesn't take long; try it out... ;-)

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

It is doable... but then you need to use a (modified) gasser radiator. (This one has a rebuilt LDS427-2 under that hood)

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

Ditto. Same goes for the headlight brackets. Accordingly, the engine side covers are tapered towards the front, while the MFs are 10" tall, straight rectangular.

    preventable rear suspension failure

Agreed. Many ways to "skin the cat"... At least people should get to know that there is such spot, to put some grease in there. I have seen too many of these spring seats, completely neglected - running almost dry and everything worn out beyond hope, of course.

    preventable rear suspension failure

This is my reasoning: 1) Since everything is slow motion in there we can actually completely fill (and keep filled-) the whole space, 100%. That way no water will penetrate - and no condensation can occur. 2) When you pump fresh grease in, it normally goes first where there has been the most...

    M1000 Trailer

Well, that was an initial idea, yes... but then never prospered. Instead, this guy did stretch one of his M1000 about 10', with the plan to eventually accommodate two more pairs of axles. He even had all the components already to make all but the first axles steer. But that second phase never...

    M1000 Trailer

I'm still wondering how any larger size (dually) tires would work well on that trailer, without them rubbing too much on the upper suspension arm and even on the platform itself. Because even the original 215s do rub, in certain positions.

    preventable rear suspension failure

How could that happen? The seal as well as the retainer are installed on the tandem axle spindle, not pressed into the spring seat housing. There is no way these could shift further back. Because otherwise the front (outer) bearing would never see any fresh grease. You are referring to the...

    preventable rear suspension failure

Hey Rusty, please.... think - then post! Orren has it right. That seal that you say "would get blown out..." It is the very same seal as the inner ones on the wheel hubs: NSN 5330-00-891-7826. I think it was in the late sixties when they did that upgrade with the sleeve bearings, to replace...

    M1000 Trailer

Hah... I guess you are referring to a certain 5th wheel plate and parts - which just today I heard, are still sitting on a very nice & clean M322 trailer...? ;-)
