What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

As many of these as you have worked on you have a lot more experience than I do. So I'll take your word on it and give the aluminum ones a go. Appreciate the advice.

Lol nope they both honestly look like they had been in there for 30 years. The coffee looked like the stuff that comes in a MRE.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Pulled the leaky heater core out. Looks to be the original so I'm going to have it rebuilt. I hear horror stories about the aluminum ones all the time. Also discovered an entire wife beater/under shirt and a pack of instant coffee in my heater box.

    M1009 Blower Motor Housing

No luck finding anything. Guess I'll pull it and cut the rust out and fiberglass patch it. Not ideal but it should work.

    M1009 Blower Motor Housing

Anyone know where to get a new blower motor housing at. The metal housing that's in the engine bay. The lower part of mine has rusted out and I'm not finding any on the Google.

Spin on fuel filter mod. It being crooked is going to bother some folks but I did it that way so I could fit longer filters on if needed. Eventually going to put a petcock in the other side for bleeding.

Nice which kit did you go with. I've had the 6 quart kit on my wish list for a while now with plans to do exactly the same thing.

    Wilson Starters for CUCV?

Has anyone ever tried one of these. I only found it by doing a bunch of starter part number cross referencing. https://www.filterspro.com/WILSON-91-01-4376_p_1843437.html

I rarely get up to Carroll county any more. I just changed my profile since you reminded me it still said that. I'm actually in Roanoke Al now.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Wouldn't have been me. Unfortunately I'm just starting to work on mine again. Trans went out in 2017 when I was trying to save money to buy a house. Fast forward to 2021 I'm now in said new house and finally able to start working on him again. The plan is to have him ready to drive to Moab by...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

M1009 Replaced all the belts and upper rad hose. The driver Alt belt had gotten so much play in it it was rubbing a hole in my upper rad hose. Also changed the old black stuff that was supposed to be power steering fluid.

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

I used to live in Race City Mooresville NC. Nice area up there. I used to love going up to Grandfather Mountain in winter. There's just something about a snow covered view from the top of a mountain. Now that you have a 4x4 that's a trip you can make later down the road to.

New M1009 Owner - Plans and advice

Welcome. Not a bad looking rig. Almost none of ours looked good when we got them but some of us got luckier than others. I've had mine for a long time and it still looks like crap I still love the darn thing though. Good luck and I hope for your wallet the military vehicle bug doesn't bite you...

Correct Belts for M1008 and M1009

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

Doing this conversion with the Napa 4770 base this weekend. Thanks to the OP and everyone else who has contributed to this thread. I'm fitting out my M1009 for trail riding and the spin ons are a much easier filter to find locally if something goes wrong in the woods.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Replaced glow plugs. Pulled transmission and transfer case for rebuild. Replacing flex plate while that's pulled as well.

    Swollen glow plug removal

The button works fine for me. I live in Alabama so the lowest temps we see normally would be in the teens. A 3 to 5 second hold on the button usually does the trick. If it's in the teens I may have to do it twice.

    Swollen glow plug removal

Nope never said a thing about it. I'm just happy that it came on out without breaking.

    Swollen glow plug removal

I wasn't sure what it was just knew it was the only different one. I only went with 60G because I searched on here for which ones are best and it seems like anyone with a resistor bypass goes with the 60G. My glow plugs are on a button so hopefully everything will work out with the 60G. I may...
