What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Rock Sliders Finally finished up my rock sliders. I wanted some side protection for the body when going through deep ruts or tight trails so I added some side tubing. The main piece of angle is 1/4" thick and should be more durable than the others I've seen of 3/16". There's also 5 carriage...

    Coolant Filter Yes or No

The coolant in the tank on my truck always looked nice and green. When I pulled off a dry rotted hose to replace it, the water inside was surprisingly rusty. I drained it using the petcock and left it open with a water hose flowing into the coolant tank. Leave the heater valve on. I started the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Looks to me like someone added a solenoid for a Manual glow plug switch. Definitely not factory. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Air Filter Restriction Gauge Bulb

I took mine out completely when I installed the egt gauge. There was only a vacuum line going to the air intake. Maybe the newer models have a backlight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Where is this leak coming from?

Mine leaks a little from the diff output seal. It seeps down and drips from the bottom of the caliper. Hard to tell if that’s where it is on the pics. If it’s diff fluid it will have that cat pi*s smell that diff fluid has. Not sure if dot 5 silicone brake fluid has a smell or not. Sent from...

    Insulating the Turbo Doghouse

It has been a while since I looked at the 6.5 turbo setup when I was considering it. (I decided if I hassle with another motor it’ll be a 12 valve Cummins) Anyway, I remember the up pipe from the manifold to the center mount turbo comes around the back up against the dog house. I would put some...

    Insulating the Turbo Doghouse

This is similar to what I was thinking of though not as thick. Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Sound Deadener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00069QLVC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bdV2zbM2PK1ZV I think a layer of the classic hard rubber 1/4 inch dynamat with a layer of foam...

    Insulating the Turbo Doghouse

Depends on how much much clearance you have behind the dog house. I think the ideal solution would be the 1 to 1.5 inch thick soft foam with the aluminum backing on it. That is used commonly for heat and sound deadening around engines and trans. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I went to a Jeep off road event about a month ago. Whilst showing up Jeeps with more money in mods than I have in the V, I heard a loud clanking noise from the engine. Turns out, one of the screws on a fan clutch plate had sheared off and the plate was flapping back and forth. Using some pliers...

    Antifreeze leak

Not much else to do other than dig in and see if it's the core itself or just a loose hose clamp or rotten hose. If you need to use the truck in the meantime you can always loop the lines in the engine bay and bypass the heater core all together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    HMMWV cleaning windshield??

Brake cleaner or carb cleaner should get it off with a rag but try to keep it off of the rubber window seal.

    6.2 Safe EGTs

Finally done I greatly appreciate everyone's input. I took off my radio rack and dog house to try using the extensions to get that one rearward facing nut. I finally got it done by using a combination of all the 1/2 inch and 3/8 extensions I had as well as 1/2 to 3/8 adapters. I could only get...

    6.2 Safe EGTs

I appreciate the help guys. I'll try to link up all my extensions and see if that'll reach. If not it'll take 30 minutes of cussing and cutting my knuckles while hunched over the engine bay. If all else fails I'll leave it as is and justify my laziness by telling myself it's better for the motor...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Interesting that you have your tire pressure that high. Granted I don't have a bumper or spare but I noticed my tires were bulged in the center and thus not wearing evenly. I set them to 30 all around last fall which rose to 34 in the warmer weather. They're at 26 now which will hopefully make...

    6.2 Safe EGTs

How did you access the allen screw? I spent almost an hour yesterday trying to get at the access cover. I got two of the throttle bracket bolts off but I didn't have a long enough 15mm wrench to get off the one rearward facing bolt. Once you get that out of the way how do you remove the 1/4"...

    Engine fan in cold weather.

Look at the temperature delta. If on a 90 degree day the engine would rise to say 240 (if the fan didn't come on for whatever reason) then on a 40 degree day the engine should only go to 190 (all things being equal). When its below 50 or so my fan rarely comes on except during extended WOT use.

    6.2 Safe EGTs

So I've been wanting to turn up the fuel to get a little more power out of this dog of a motor. I wanted to check my EGTs first so I installed a gauge with the probe 2 inches behind the passenger side flange where it meets the manifold. I've only gone on a short test drive but whilst flooring it...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

EGT Gauge Install I've been wanting to turn up the injection pump for a while now but I always told myself I would wait until I had an EGT gauge first. I found this one new for 40 dollars off on the auction site. The 1500 degree gauge would've been ideal but I couldn't pass up the deal. I...

    HMMWV Enhanced Inspection in Pennsylvania

The front end of these trucks are identical to the H1 except for perhaps the brush guard. They couldn't fail a factory H1. If it doesn't pass you could temporarily rig something. Like when you build a house you put up the plywood over the railing on your steps that exceeds the 3 inch gap limit...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

A few years back I was doing research on why in 10 years diesel has gone from being significantly cheaper than gas to significantly more expensive. It turns out the "most PC term here", left, decided that whatever little amount of sulfur was in diesel was killing dolphins and melting the ice...
