19 degrees here, she started right up

Just has gotten cold down here. In the mid 30s I pump the gas while cranking and it takes a couple seconds to fire. Maybe I should check the resistance on my plugs.

    Humvee won't start

Take the engine cover off and on the left you'll see a silver can that is the fuel filter. Pull the rubber line off that I believe is closer to you, it'll be the one that doesn't go towards the engine intake and to the injection pump. Run the line into a plastic bottle and crank the engine. It...

    Supercharger

What, you haven't ever raced a prius on your favorite off road highway? Technically, I think the lady at the DMV missed it. :-P Sorry, I shouldn't be such a smartass.

    Supercharger

I don't want to make a race vehicle and I could care less about creature comforts, A.C, water leaks etc. I would never drive a Prius, the fact that I have a Hummer and a Humvee shows what I think about environmental laws. It is however imbarassing that a Prius could walk away from the most...

I am about to install a 5.3 gas burner

I agree that a cammed 5.3 is definitely an upgrade to the boat anchor 6.2. Stock it has another 100 hp and almost as much torque. Personally I would go with a 6.0. The 6.0 vortec has 320hp and the same torque as the 6.2. An ls3 would be even better but that's at a lot higher price point. The...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

HMMWV Stereo I'm sure this isn't what most people have in mind when they talk about putting a radio in their Humvee. To some this is blasphemy but having some music really makes those long off road commutes more bearable:wink:. My plywood in the center was rotten anyway so I went ahead and made...

    Blew the upper radiator hose

The upper rad hose is at the top of the coolant system. It probably did only lose a gallon of coolant. You'd be surprised how much bigger a gallon looks splattered all over the engine bay. The way I always purge air is to rev the engine with the reservoir cap off and the heater core valve opened.

    M998 Shifts Early

Make sure the throttle cable doesn't have any slack. Mine would only open 2/3 when I got my truck and not only was it not giving the engine full fuel but it wouldn't engage the kickdown switch. Mash it from a stop and it'll wind out the gears approx 30 in first and 50 in second. At half throttle...

    Transport HMMWV

I've pulled 3 Humvees on the galvanized Uhaul trailers behind my Hummer H2. While some say they fit fine, I have to unbolt the right fender to get mine on and off. Otherwise it would at least scrape the sidewalls of the tire or maybe bend the fenders.

    4L80E Version Differences

I don't see why a 90s pull out of a 3500 with the 6.5 NA or 6.5 TD 4x4 wouldn't work. The valving and torque converter should be the same. Only difference would probably be the pan. With the pathetic power that these engines make and the fact most people will never exceed 6000 pounds gross, then...

New to forum help with volts/amps

First thing is you should never disconnect the batteries while it is running. The batteries act as a voltage equalizer and running it without them can fry the EESS or other electronics if the voltage spikes. First check the voltage of each battery with the truck off and make sure it is charged...

Manual Override of Glow Plug Controller

It is pretty easy to add a push button for the glow plugs. Just order a 24 volt starter relay off of Amazon and mount it in a convenient spot, maybe the battery compartment or on the firewall. Also order a momentary on push button switch, meaning it only makes the connection when pushed. Tie the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Installed a new lift pump. The old one wasn't pumping at all and it was full of oil that poured out the breather line once I took it off. Got a new Delphi pump from Autozone PN AMF0030. Told them it was for a 86 3500 diesel. Only differences are this pump doesn't have a breather nipple and has 2...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Installed the tag bracket from http://www.thosemilitaryguys.com/new-lighted-license-plate-holder/ . I would've just fabbed something up but for 31 bucks I'd probably break even not counting my time after ordering the LEDs and factory connectors. The few I've seen put the tag under the tail light...

New Member, New truck and A Trans Question

Thanks for the input, I got around to some diagnosing just using past experience and found that the throttle cable had too much slack. Adjusted it so now the pedal has no play and goes far enough to engage the kickdown switch. It holds gears long enough to stay in the power band and downshifts...

New Member, New truck and A Trans Question

Hello all, I've been lurking this site for about almost 4 months during my EUC wait and now have 2 HMMWVs. I towed one back on a Uhaul galvanized trailer and it WILL NOT fit without unbolting the fender. Anyway, towed it home behind my H2 from Montgomery to Atlanta. I've gotten most the basic...

    Issues with SF-97

Sale Date 5-18 EUC Submitted 6-1 EUC Approved 9-6 Strange thing is I bought 2 trucks, both with EUCs submitted 6-1 but, the 89 in Montgomery passed and my 87 in Kentucky hasn't yet.

    Issues with SF-97

Just joined this site, definitely a lot of great information on here about HMMWVs. I bought 2 in late May, an 87 not running for unknown reasons and an 89 that runs. Both EUCs were submitted on June 1st. From what I've read the standard wait is 3 months now? Kinda funny that I was out the door...
