What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I had a mishap backing out of a narrow trail and bent the apparently very weak brush guard on a 2 inch diameter tree. I straightened it back out but the paint cracked off so I finally got around to painting the brush guard. I wire wheeled off all the loose paint and rust and painted it with Rust...

    High oil pressure....

That's standard with cold thick oil. Fully warm idle should be 15-20 psi. Too much oil pressure isn't a bad thing. It means your motor clearances are tighter and less worn. It's when you have too little pressure you should worry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    stock vs variable rate springs

I noticed one of my trucks has the smaller front springs in the back as well. It does ride noticeably smoother than my other truck with the heavier rear springs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    LS Engine Swap, why?

I agree a 12 valve cummins would be much better. However a stock 6.0 vortec makes 320hp and 405 ft pounds. Versus the 160hp 400 ft pound Detroit. Don't quote me on the numbers but that's ballpark. The Detroit weights what 800 pounds and the iron block ls weighs around half that. The aluminum...

    Hub Drain Bolt Magnet

I went ahead and put the plug back without the magnet. Maybe I'll replace it eventually. I'm glad I changed the oil though, the bad vent line let a fair amount of water in. Enough to put the level at the top of the fill plug hole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hub Drain Bolt Magnet

So a while back I noticed my passenger rear hub vent line was chaffed through. I replaced the hose and am in the process of changing the hub oil. While I was cleaning the filings off the magnet it came loose from the plug. Is something supposed to hold the magnet to the plug other than...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

No complaints about the oil. I use rotella 15-40 which is always cheap at walmart. I've never seen a loose fill cap but the dip stick never fits that tight. My only thing is I never use Fram. You can pull up some of the horror stories from their cheap drain back valves and paper components...

    Tire pressure, mpg, ride quality

30 psi all around for me. Works well on the road on the way to the trail and good enough on the trails. I don't air down on the trails because a good enough portable compressor to fill 37s is 150+ bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    24v to 12v converter?

I use a sure power 40 amp equalizer for my stereo setup and it has worked well since December. I installed it neatly (imo) in the little compartment adjacent to the battery box. It is water resistant and only 150 bucks. It is powerful enough to supply even a winch and then top off the 12 volt...

Need help Identifying leak near diff

Looks the same as my rear diff. Wipe some on your finger and if it smells like sulfur or cat piss it's diff oil from the output seal to the halfshaft. I just check the level and if I ever got into water that high I'd be sure to change it before long. That seal is a major PITA to fix and requires...

    Tire debate...

It is indeed old for a tire but some of mine are from 2008 and look new. Even have some from 2004 on a truck and they look plenty safe. If it were a sports car it would be a concern but not on one of these AWD 160hp beasts. Paul walker died from having 9 year old tires on that Carrera GT but not...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Crisis Averted Was rolling around under the truck today removing some of that plastic mesh erosion grass that had wrapped itself around the rear axle and wedged itself around the hub input seal. In the process of that I noticed this. Looks like a couple of the axle bolts had almost backed out...

    Tire debate...

The standard MT gets good traction and lasts for a good time while being the cheapest. I haven't seen a MT/R for a 16.5 inch rim but they have the strip down the center for better road wear and slightly less noise. I would guess because of this they have a little less grip in the mud. The Baja...

    Towing HMMVW with HMMWV.

That's a cool spec sheet. Interesting they list the top speed as 65+ with a 6.2/3l80. Does the 3l80 have a different 3rd gear ratio? Or is that speed overrated and just not good for the engine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Using house paint. on HMMWV

All kinds of people on here have used behr exterior. It certainly isn't as durable as real paint or the carc already on your truck. I off road my truck a lot and the behr wouldn't last long at all. That being said I've painted brush guards and touch ups on trucks for sale as well as my stereo...

    Hmmwv oil sample analysis

The oil pressure depends on how hot the oil was. On cold starts mine is at 45 and on hot days after a long drive it idles at 10-15. You can search black stone labs oil analysis chart for what normal levels are. I know high silicon is from poor air filtration and allowing dirt into the intake...

sharing my hmmwv restore/ repurpose for civilian use

Rear mount turbo setup? Doubt many on here would have heard of this but it could work for sure. Biggest downside is running a 3 inch pipe back up to the intake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Width to outside of wheels

Yes the trailer fender. I was in a hurry one day to get it back by 5 and didn't torque all the bolts back down. I swear a few weeks later I saw a uhaul fender laying in someone's yard. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Width to outside of wheels

It has been posted many times but it's 82 inches IIRC. I used u hauls 3 times and had to unbolt the right fender to fit them on. That option is 60 dollars a day for reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Painted the brush guard on a truck I'm getting ready for sale. Ground off the rust and loose paint with a grinder/ wire wheel. Then I used the Behr 383 green I had from my stereo project cut with a little water. Sprayed through a cheapie HVLP gun at 100 psi, yes 100 is what it takes to spray a...
