No idle, but runs at 1400+??

The fuel cut-off lever may be sluggish. When held in your hand the lever portion must turn under its own weight.

Cut open coolant filter from the deuce

The coolant filter is used as a "bypass filter", only a portion of the coolant flows through it, but in time 100% of the coolant will have passed through it. The heater is also in a "bypass" config and it's okay to add another loop, which you can do by using a "T" fitting at the "in" and "out"...

    Gama Goat owner err herder

The Goat was designed for using DOT 3 (glycol based HB fluid). The changeover to silicone (BSF) took place in 1980-81, so if you want to use DOT 3, it should not be a problem. I have always used DOT 3 in my deuce.

    Gama Goat owner err herder

Congrats on your Goat! If my 8x8 deal had not worked out, there would be one sitting in my driveway now (Chris and I shared one 5 years ago).

Why do so deuces start in the cold and so don't

Cranking RPM is critical to keep the temp up in the combustion chambers (=low oil viscosity and fully charged batteries) and should be about 250-300, which you can monitor on the tach. Of course a block heater of some kind solves most starting problems. I have noticed that if you start the truck...

Virginia and surrounding areas ... spring get together

Maybe you could discuss this with Cabell; http://www.steelsoldiers.com/steel-soldiers-rally/72204-2011-graves-mountain-virginia-rally-labor-day-weekend.html

    Bed crane designs...

Neat, to use a sixties expression. Good as long as you can back up to whatever you are loading.

M54A2 in WA needs IP before getting impounded

You should only have to worry about replacing/fixing the hydraulic head, a lot easier than taking the IP out.

rear shocks on a 5 ton

Image of the 757 with left rear wheel in the air. Not caused by the shock (did the same with shocks removed), but apparently from unloaded 5th wheel and the tight torque rods.

rear shocks on a 5 ton

As a side note, leaf springs have damping qualities, the more leaves the more damping..one reason that you should never lubricate leaf springs.

12v harbor freight solar battery charger

The "Solargizer" is not a charger, it puts out a series of electrical pulses, which desulfate the battery plates over time. It can be made to run on a wide range of voltages, so the labeling is okay IMHO.

    Hiab knuckle boom crane

The fittings on mine are not standard American...had a heck of a time trying to find a replacement with Leonard's help even, during my trip out in Sacramento. Get with Cargotec, probably the dealer nearest you, for details. Image below is a typical parts list. These things are made in Sweden to...

Fuel leak, over top of turbo, what is it?

This is what you don't see...uses oxygen in the process, so use sparingly. The original installations featured shut-ff solenoids in the lines to prevent problems with leakage since fuel fed into the intake manifold can cause a runaway situation. There is a check valve in the nozzle that needs...

    Bio Diesel.....?

Biodiesel has a lower heating value than diesel and there will be a power loss and/or higher fuel consumption/mile. The EGT will be lower for biodiesel Biodiesel/veggie oil, it contains oxygen and promotes a cleaner burn (less harmful exhaust). Having used bio fuels off and on for about six...
