I would just rebuild the one you have and save the extra cash. I just rebuilt one of mine last weekend and it only took about 45 minutes. I'm sure that next time around it would only take 30 minutes. I got the parts form ASP and they shipped them the same day as ordered.
I rebuilt the passenger side Alternator and it was a complete success. I replaced all three belts while I was at it. I also added a steering wheel lock chain with a hyd hose Kevlar cover (so I don't chew up the wheel and seat). My next thing is to figure out why the fuel gage reads whatever it...
I looked at the CUCV Elec site and took notes. I read the TMs and took Warthogs advice and bought from ASP.
Shipping was same day and had the parts in two days. I will rebuild these after work on Saturday and post how it went after.
Thanks for your input.
Bert
I received my rebuild kits today for the alternators and I plan on rebuilding both of them and replacing the belts while I'm at it.
I have spent many an evening reading the TMs and posts about the above.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom or tricks of the trade prior to diving in on Sat...
I found out this evening that I need to rebuild my passenger side Alt. I will be doing both while I'm at it.
I've read allot of these threads and need to know who's selling the kits now.

Shortbus1,
There is an aluminum part inside the front of the oil pan that is bolted to the block, the rubber pcs are between the aluminum bracket and the block.

Nice save and the new owner looks like he has a good truck to start working with.
I have to agree with Frank (Roller), mine started out the same color also.
