That same thing happened to my buddies truck. When they are parked those little bastards ruin everything. They love heater ducts. I always keep mouse traps in my truck when they sit for more than a week. Do you need another plastic piece? Im scrapping my truck.
What happens is the springs over time fatigue and do not put a lot of pressure on the on the plastic bushing that goes around the cone. You can put some washer under the cap or buy a new kit from ord

They are different. I think the solenoid is offset because of frame rails. If you put them side by side you will see the difference. I believe they will not physically fit.
I would put my fresh rebuilt dd starter up against any gear reduction out there. I know that it was rebuilt using good quality replacement parts. Just saying. New technology is not always better.
