    m1028 vehicle id numbers?

I have uncovered some of the original painted markings of my cucv, and was wondering if anyone here could decode them. Would be cool to know the history of my truck. Hard to make out some of the letters on the bumper though.

    Detroit Locker - Not-selectable?

Am I right to assume these trucks (m1008/m1028 ) are equipped with a non-selectable locker? They aren't trutracs, right?

    New m1028, crank no start

Went ahead and removed that short piece from the glow plug relay to the starter relay and ran some 10 gauge wire from the 24v shunt to the starter relay. Starer now runs at correct speed, but my flywheel is missing almost 80% of its teeth, so I'll have to get the truck towed to a place where I...

    New m1028, crank no start

Under the tape is spliced together. I can wire something together to at least get 24v to the relay, but where do I grab the 24v?

    New m1028, crank no start

Here are some photos. I'm new to the cucv wiring, and so far the wiring looks pretty bad from the previous owner.

    New m1028, crank no start

Well I just checked fuel, it's getting it to the injectors Although the flywheel is chewed up. Missing a large portion of the teeth. So I guess I'll be replacing it before I can get it running

    New m1028, crank no start

There is no relay under dash. The one in the picture is the starter relay, cause if I disconnect it, engine doesn't crank. Both batteries have been tested good. The truck in it's entirety needs attention. I just want to get it running then I'll be deep cleaning it.

    New m1028, crank no start

New to the cucv crowd, previous humvee owner. Just picked up this new m1028, and the guy put in a new 24v starter, and I just threw in two brand new batteries. Unfortunately the original starter relay was replaced and relocated to the engine bay firewall. I saw the doghead relay mod and that...

    6.5 l swap out to 6.5 l turbo in 2001 m1123

I did it with a 1/2" body lift. A bit tight on the intake manifold but works well. The body tub needs to be cut there mostly and a little on the drivers side to make it fit like a factory model. I did it with a small circular saw, some people get the trim tabs to add the lip back in, but not...

Tunnel top and rear side insulation pads

They didn't have insulation back there because the fuel tank is there, so heat wasn't as much as a problem.

Has anyone swapped a 6.5Turbo engine into a 6.2 HMMWV? What is needed? Grocery list?

New set of genuine Bosch injectors with a new set of glow plugs and it should run new! Don't fall for the high output or marine injector scam. Just get standard high quality injectors for the 6.5 turbo

Has anyone swapped a 6.5Turbo engine into a 6.2 HMMWV? What is needed? Grocery list?

Air in the fuel lines will be a definite. Another common problem is old injectors. My injectors were completely ****ed when I got the engine so I had to replace them. After that I had some more power, smoother running engine and a whole 8 mpg extra!

    m998a1 mpg

2.56 diffs, just recently been averaging 17-18. I did just switch climates and terrain, so no more mountain passes on a daily basis and no more cold weather.

    m998a1 mpg

I'm getting 17-18 with 6.5 turbo and 4l80. I plan on taking out the run flats to see if I can scrape together anymore savings. If it was legal I'd say run marine diesel before they switch over, that stuff will get you a couple extra mpg

    4l80e problem symptoms

Sorry post is way old. It turned out was just high shift points. Adjusted the tcm, got a 6.5turbo engine all is fine

    m998a1 mpg

In physical size it's a good comparison to a 4 door Wrangler. But weight capacity is a huge difference. You could load a Wrangler into the back of a Humvee and go off roading. Especially when you get to soft top m1123, good mileaeg, good speed, decent towing, and can carry 2.5 tons. I always...

    4l80e problem symptoms

With the turbo engine and 2.56 gears 55 is right in the power curve and is nice to cruise at. Going 55 with your current setup would be equivalent to doing 75 in my setup, bit difference. For just the engine part of the swap I had a 2 ton engine hoist, my floor jack, and a box of wrenches...

    4l80e problem symptoms

That TCM is the newer generation one with some extra features to protect the transmission. Not sure the compatibility, but should be fine as long as it's the same connector on the outside of the box. The PROM for the shift points will be a little different since that one will have it set up for...

    H1 vs HMMWV noise?

The GEP engines are quieter because of the thicker block and fire deck. That combined with the insulation of a h1 makes for a quieter ride. Ive had two sound readings at 65, 6.2 with 4l80 was 117 db next to the drivers side of the doghouse. GEP 6.5 turbo and 4l80 at 65 was 90 db at the...

Bfgoodrich Baja vs Goodyear Wrangler MT opinions

I have BFG Baja load E with 24 bolt paired spacing. I run 35 front, 30 rear. They run pretty well, came pre balanced and are smooth at all speeds. I plan on taking out the runflats and replacing with pvc beadlocks to lighten the tire. nearly 40lbs per tire, should ride better and have better...
