    Engine knocking LDS-456

I was in the same boat as Oerthedge21 a couple of years ago. I did use plastigauge. A friend of mine who is a heavy equipment mechanic asked me "Why? You spend money to buy the plastigauge, spend time to measure the bearings (you need to open and re-assemble bearing caps), only to find out that...

LD, LDS, LDT 465 all variants- same head gasket. LDS 427 not sure. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

    Engine knocking LDS-456

No, that is normal. When the heads are off and you spin the engine over, the ring friction is often enough to lift them. All but one. There is always one that won't budge. It's the one Murphy is sitting on while he watches you.

    LDS465-1a smoke reduction at idle?

I have an LDS with the one hole injectors and Menaces' description is bang on. Smokes at idle and runs ...umm...clean-ish under load. One of these days I'll switch in the two hole injectors I have... Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

    Engine knocking LDS-456

We have some good experts here on the site but metinks a dripping injector might do that! Now it's decision time how far you want to get into it....1 piston, rings and liner.....or 6 pistons, rings and liners....and mains...and rod bearings...decisions, decisions. I do recommend the 12 point...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

benhasajeep, I followed your advice and used a 3/4 in drill bit. I have also resigned myself to the fact that the universe does not want me to do this power steering conversion. When I started drilling (brand new 3/4 in drill bit, new Ridgid drill, cutting fluid, sloooow speed) I noticed...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Drained coolant, took radiator out, turned upside down so I could solder the stupid hole I made. About the size of a 9mm bullet hole. Put back, refilled. No leak when static. When engine warm, a pin head drop of coolant just hangs there underneath the repair. No "leak" or constant drip. Yup...

Good point. Blue gas bottle it is! I let you know how that turns out, tomorrow.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Began the install of the Waterloo power steering. Murphy was asleep for most of it, but then I discovered that the radiator fan shroud was quite loose after trimming. "No problem", I thought. "I just take my welder and tack it to the radiator bracket down there". Problem was...that was not a...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

No, I don't think that is your problem. The valves do need adjusting, though.

The sender is NSN 6620008144770 for the 60 PSI and NSN 6620009935546 for the 120 PSI and it is 1/4 inch pipe thread for both.

So new 1971 Deuce delivered today. No spare, odd size tires on it.

If you run duals on the rears you do not really need to carry a spare. Just take one of the rears if you need to replace a tire up front to get you where you need to go.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

The in-cab video has great sound. I can hear the knock. Darn it. No easy fix with a couple Viton O-rings. A few things to consider. You can pull the heads, identify the damaged piston and liner, replace and button it up. And hope that was all there was to it. You will spend 350-500 bucks...

    brake issue reo m275

Sounds like there is still air trapped in the system, if you do not have any fluid leaking. My suspicion would be in the air pack. You can definitely bleed the brakes as you describe, but I find using a power bleeder is much more likely to be successful with 1 (-2) rounds of bleeding. You...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Start, let idle, check manifold at each cylinder, back and forth. You will see the temps rising at each cylinder - unless it is not firing. At those, the manifold will stay noticeably cooler. It will all warm up somewhat but it will not get the same heat as with an operating cylinder. I would...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Oerthedge21, your suspicions have not yet been proven wrong. Still on the rule-out list. Does your oil smell of diesel fuel and appear to have thinner viscosity? How does it drip off the stick? Motor oil should "stretch" and coat the dipstick. Oil with diesel in it tends to "bead" more...
