In my opinion. I would hook it up. I ran these trucks for 27 + years with no adverse conditions or issues. It also helps pull the glow plug voltage from both batteries during cold start and reduces the strain and alternator on the front 12 volt battery and the Gen 1. I bought everyone I ever...
The upper timing cover has to come off anyway. the water pump is bolted in from behind. But I would replace the water manifold crossover gaskets and the rear head cover gaskets along with all the hoses. I did find that the Generator 2 bracket may need a little grinding to get to fit some of the...
I am preparing my barn for the winter. I have not been getting a lot done with illness and work. I think I will rest for the winter and hope for progress in the spring. I am going to move the CUCV M1009 forward and cover it till spring. I was out today doing a lot of cleaning and sorting of...
Very nice Dr. Brent. I have seen this before and was going to mention it but I thought you had checked that. The M10 bolts do not fill the holes well in that cover. It is a sloppy fit. I have 2 new sheet metal 2 piece cover for a HMMWV. I put 1 on a CUCV a few years back just for fun and it fit...
Sir he started towing this 8 months ago. I hope he is at his destination at this point. Thank you for your advise. And using a Dodge to tow a Chevrolet is a disgrace to the Bow-Tie Army. I used my M1028 to tow a Ford F350 home once and I got a lot of thumbs up and wise cracks at fueling...
Nothing is infallible. Make sure the starter is not getting stuck in the ring gear. If it requires a shim use one. But as I always say check the cranking amps of the batteries and make sure the support bracket is in place. the twisting of the starter may cause it to get hung up in the ring gear...
Please be sure to repair all fuel leaks no matter how small. Fuel and fire = disaster. I don't think this is an electrical fire. Ahh Could Be. Be Safe. Have a Great Weekend.

I even added a secondary brush seal and never had issues. Something is amiss here. I can measure opening with or without seals.
I spent time last night getting the hood edge sanded. I was unable to complete my task. I did however use the blower to remove nesting and seeds from the inner structure. A mouse had a very nice home in the rear inner reinforcement of the hood. He was able to store food and nesting in that...
The 2 upper seals should not be preventing the smooth operation of the glass. Unless your gate has the opening bent shut. I would remove the seals and see if the tightness is coming from the side guides. I never seen replacement felts only. Were they something you added after you removed the old...
What do the side lower sash guides look like? Are they smooth and polished? They should be and they should have smooth corners and edges so they don't dig into the side guides. I use a rubber Trim Lok seal in the side guides. it has outlasted any replacement side guides I ever bought. The OEM...
Easy to fix. get the glass out and clean the area. Cut patches from a hood or door anything same vintage. and weld and tap them into place. An actual pinch weld repair patch don't exist that I am aware of. I fixed a few pinch welds. But fairly easy with a welder and clean and shape as you go...
Like anything. Fix the problem that is causing the failure. Don't redesign the relay so you can crank the engine longer and harder on weak battery's. I had Fords solenoids stuck also. The hammer worked best in a pinch. I just like to NOT cut wiring harnesses and have been doing reverse...
I don't think a CUCV has a neutral safety switch. The stock CUCV has a switch at the base of the steering column for back up lamps only. And the way I see it the column and keyed switch are gated and cut so the key will engage in park and neutral only. I have had a few that would start in drive...
Like saying after I seen a bullet hole in the door of a CUCV M1009 I went full armor on my M1009 and darn if I might get shot when I open the door to get out. The stock relay was great for over 35 years. And now this made it better how? Lots of open positive connections under a fully negative...
I had the 4 leaf on several CUCV pickups. I had a huge commercial grade 8FT Western. It was awesome. It rode firm with little or no bounce. New springs all the way around. I could haul 2 skids of salt and the 8FT Western with no problems. Unfortunately someone fell asleep and ran off the road...
