sounds like a fuel issue. The common spots for leaking fuel is, lift pump and fuel filter base. You can put a clear hose coming off the injector pump return and look for bubbles.
You have to remember that the plastic is very brittle after 30 years of dry heat. I wish you would have done more exploring before ripping out your cluster. I think you need to remove your kick vent to get that nut out. You must have snapped your tack welds. On getting a new cluster they are...

Not trying to flame at all, but if you like the OEM relay so much and may change it in the future why don't you leave it how it is? Then it is 100% OEM
because it is for a civi truck. You need to tap off you left side turn signal and cut that wire for the right side and splice it into the main harness. Everyone says to buy this fitting even though it is the wrong part. Even after I tell them it will not work correctly.
