Here is some timing info for you. Follow the instruction to confirm the engine setting.
Instead of a barring wrench, put the transfer case in neutral, shut off fuel delivery and turn short drive shaft between transfer and gear box.
Well technically you are supposed to taper a hole for pipe threads...I'll look for references....Well okay, since the tap is tapered, it's only important to go just so far as to leave a tapered hole, I guess..
1,200 to 1,500 rpm when running the HIAB and no problems with wetstacking.
Keeping the rpm at idle (700-850 rpm) for long periods of time is not so good in my experience. Causes sluggish performance and lots of smoke until deposits are burned off when you start driving it normally after long...
Justin, if the new box has a pipe plug near the connector, unscrew it to vent the box. I'll send you a sintered metal vent plug, to keep bugs out...I have couple of extras...

Images below show how it was found and purchased back in 1993.
The deuce didn't come with those features because they were not required 99% of the time.
The Norwegian version of the deuce, the M621 (?) has lockers and even an ROP.
Check out M35tom and his "Millennium" deuce and his locker equipped current deuce.
The IMHO 'improved" deuce and 5-ton truck...
