Actually, yes, repeated cycles of humid warm days with cool nights, will essentially act like a pump and water will accumulate.
Built instrument cases for tractor trailers and ocean racing sail boat applications by the thousands over the years and always made sure there were breathing/drain...
Happened one time to me (the losing lights thing), so now my trucks have redundancy in that department, extra relay with dedicated CB and override switch....
The second relay in the image is for the flashers.
Similar set-up is applicable to any light circuit, of course.
Got 4ea from Memphis for the 757 about 3 years ago and they still look and feel like new. They are the same size as used on the deuce and have the mil P/N molded into the rubber...also marked "TOP" IIRC.
They are the zippered type.
Mike, I have been working on "details" and posted progress from time to time (I don't care for threads with hundreds of pages, so my reports are usually single page jobbers). For example, the tire chains, the MEP018 genset, the fuel burning heater, some mention of the NiCd cells used for "house...
Starting to look seriously at the GA rally now...need to get some cash together, this fixed income retirement situation is not going well, got stuck in a rut it seems.
Adrian is working near Atlanta at the moment and might attend regardless, although his M37 is up here.
The 757 runs so nicely...
Well, since the the illumination power runs through the 3-lever switch for dimming purposes only and he doesn't use it, why not bypass the switch altogether, that's all I'm saying...
Yes Jon, it shifts nicely, but sometimes a little rough shifting down slowing down on a down hill run.
All gears "lock up", so there is always some engine braking available.
Any problem with the other gauges when the lights go out? Since they are all (lights and instruments) grounded via the instrument panel 1/4 turn fasteners, that should give you a clue...
The contacts are, or at least used to be silver plated, so be careful with a file for cleaning, perhaps just...
Give me a little notice and we'll go for a drive when you are in this part of the country.
As far as MPGs, it shouldn't be much worse than a loaded deuce in the bobtail config...it weighs about the same and some drive shafts have been removed for "highway" driving.
...or use a switch already on your deuce for front axle drive engagement, one connection to air supply, one to piston or whatever is controlled (it will vent when turned back off). Also comes with matching indicator light.
A radio operator with the Pershing 1A days in the '70s, stationed in Germany, Calvin ("Trapper") stopped by for a visit during the week. He was tickled pink at a chance to drive the old 757, which was very familiar to him, but had never driven while in service.
We took the truck for a 2-mile...
One of the easiest methods to increase traction is to add weight...load you truck!
When vehicles are tested at the APG, it's with full load.
Even the Tatra uses dummy loads to improve traction.
Tire pressure, shocks and rear inter axle drive shaft removal. Even wrote an article for MV Mag about this years ago.
Removing the drive shaft is a must if you spend a lot of time on the highway (or one of the axle halves) since the locked rear axles cause a lot of front tire scrubbing. The...
I agree with the fuel problem. Experienced something similar with my 018 and finally, after cleaning the carb several times, replaced the fuel pump.
Now, I had other problems too, like low compression, which made starting a little difficult. When everything was running well, the generator head...
There is a reason for disconnecting the ground (-) first when working on batteries; you can't accidentally short something to chassis.
You can't compare house current to a set of vehicular batteries. House current is referenced to earth ground...a little difficult to disconnect.
