Words of one syllable..Uncomplicated method (hopefully). To remove the hydraulic head, Get the engine front pulley marks lined up to your engine specification. I.E. LD. LDT. LDS. AS THE RED MARK/TOOTH appears in the head window. NO mark in the window?..Rotate engine until this happens.

There are so many shims spacers and bearings in the 5 ton transfer case. It (the debris) could be from any one of them. Change your oils, Add molyslip. Just keep a general eye on things..
Thing is..I watch these videos, and it always amazes me that "they" don't run over, or crash into submerged bikes, motorcycles, cars, and other obstacles. I never hear them voice any concerns at all..I would MOST certainly be concerned. The boundaries of the roads can not be discerned even..Or...
I just checked my 'stock' (range of tools). Between them (all) they do FIT everything ever made.
A.F. 1/4" to 2"
Metric 8mm to 60mm
BSF(!) 1/8 to 1"
Whitworth(!) 3/16 to 1"...obviously 'some' of the tools and sockets are more than...a "Week old!"
Are trying to refit the actual hydraulic head unit?, As said, I could not get it seated in until we 'jiggled' the front pulley with a socket. And then the " timing marks" were not quite lined up, and from from I read they are not supposed to!. (ridiculous! why are they not marked accordingly...
We tried lining up the red/mark to the line, No go. Simply turned the engine pulley back and forth a LITTLE until (and it (the H.H.did)) pop back in place. Also we had no start with one N.O.S. Hydraulic head, and two! spare 'others'. although they presented as working as yours appears to. The...

You can't be serious?....It will (should) start without the gearbox..transfer case! axles!..body..hood..bumper..the list goes on..BUT..if it is in the low range (transfer shift down..then the speed at sensible RPM,s would be about 20(ish give and take) MPH.
Well..as some know..I had fuel problems with the M54 Camper truck..(and) after changing not one but three hydraulic heads! we had it running good. However, as I did not have that 'trust all' feeling..(or lack of confidence/old age(both!)) we decided to go from one show..camp..next...
