Welcome to the hobby. That truck looks great. It actually has the same colour scheme as my old deuce I bought in the Netherlands years ago. (It's 'done the rounds' and is now (acquired)) back with us again.
We changed all our trucks from dot5 silly cone!..to dot4 and it was as easy and straight forward as cattleman described. 12 years on we have no brake problems. (from fluid jellying or anything else.) And we use (the old way), a bottle a pipe and two people. Simple. My 1/2 penne'th.
Why on earth would you not check over or check out the vehicle before paying for it. If there were patently faults with it a more 'competent' driver should have been sent, and done the verification and collection. Seems to me if the axles had screeched and belched smoke, and the vendor had said...
Very sorry to hear of the damage because of oil failure on your truck. but (your child's facial expression, Priceless, as he/she seems to be saying, "no good dad", "sorry, I checked, it's really busted".
I see later [posts report your good truck now repaired. So very well done. Though I...
I would really like to own that truck. Don't suppose it came with the hard suction hoses did it? All I need to finish mine kit wise is to obtain the two hard hoses (2) OR just the ends, (2) from scrap or damaged hard hoses and I could (and would) tig weld them to our green goddess hose ends...

Welcome to the site and hobby. It would be nice to see some pictures of your truck though, and then pictures of your ongoing progress with the renovation.
Welcome to the site, hobby, friendships, and events to come when you have chosen and brought home your first choice new truck. The choosing, is almost as exiting (frightening) as driving it for the first time.
"that is meant in the same humorous way someone loves there vehicle but still regards it as less than normal vehicle, a monster so to speak".
But a nice suitably 'ugly' (brutal?) looking truck nonetheless.
reminds me of....
Up to now, great, great, and even more 'great!'. Fantastic work by your good self. Great truck. Great trailer. Great family. Enjoy, all of you. And watching and waiting for more pictures and ongoing work progress.
?. what is 'this'?. And to do with the camper conversion and family fun post? 'Sorta mellowed my 'joy' at that point in the families progress. (P.M. me 'the story event' if it is that grim and would effect this guys excellent progress to date.) OR post up if members should take due note..safety...
OK all..this truck drives good at times..however..it has and does just start running rough, slow down and sometimes darn near stop. Get it to around 2000 RPM and I can 'drive' most places non stop. I still am going to investigate that side pump when I can get at it..a nightmare on my big camper...
