    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

The CCKW-352 (the short wheelbase truck) came with two "spare" tires specifically so that the front wheels could be dualed during extreme conditions. These trucks (CCKW-352) were intended as artillery prime movers, an application that required maximum tractive effort. Regards, David Doyle

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

Using single tires - 11:00 - 20 on a deuce, or 14:00 - 20 on a five ton, will improve performance in mud and sand as compared to dual rear wheels. I've successfully stuck both a deuce and a five ton (within minutes of each other) - and can tell you its much easier to get the deuce unstuck than...

Newb needs help with idle on m35 a2!!!

As I said in my initial post - it defies logic - but we really don't know how much pressure the system is developing - because it pegs the gauge. Working within the design parameters, the compressor probably only pulls about 5-10 horsepower off of the engine - but we don't know that it is any...

    replacing clutch in 1970 m35 a2

I'll second what Steve said - get someone to help you - another set of eyes - and a set of fingers that can dial 911 if need be - are invaluable. As far as technique - I've used a engine hoist (my favorite) - a M62 wrecker - and a large floor jack during various transmission pulls. I own a...

Newb needs help with idle on m35 a2!!!

No clutch on the air compressor....it runs, and pumps air, the whole time. The air governor on the firewall is essentially a relief valve - when the pressure reaches X pounds, the air is exhausted to the atmosphere. The setting on this valve determines how high the pressue climbs before the...

Newb needs help with idle on m35 a2!!!

I think that you have a problem with the setting of the air governor on the firewall. I believe it is asking the compressor to build an excessive amount of air - and thus straining the engine. I know that this defies logic - but a check will be easy. Disconnect - or very much loosen - the air...

Newb needs help with idle on m35 a2!!!

How long does it take the compressor to build the air system to pressure - and what pressue does it reach? Does the engine jump to 1500 RPM and stay there, or does it drop back down? Regards, David Doyle

    More Gasser Questions

I'm in the process of putting an overdrive tranny in a gasser - I'll let everyone know how it works. As far as mounting the fording pipes. The exhaust pipe has a flange on the end of it, which bolts to the fording exhaust, which is secured to the side of the bed. The intake is secured to the...

    1955 curtis wright m35?

While I firmly believe that when one buys an object, its their's to do with as they will, but I tend to be with you on this lacoda56 - try to find a gasser - all stock - much harder than one would think. Even tougher, an unadulterated M35A1. Regards, David Doyle

    Engine problems?

As Will said - the engine in a M123A1 is a V8-300 785 cid engine. It is similar to the V8-300M marine engine, which is a naturally aspirated version of the VT8-370-M. These predate the 903, and, obviously have a smaller displacement. This is a result of a smaller bore. As I recall, there are...

    Filtering used oil

Be aware that the drums, especially if left sitting on the ground, will have internal condensation issues. Regards, David Doyle

Help with an air conditioner.. what is it?

I dunno what it is - but it is not the A/C out of an expansible van (that I do have). Regards, David

    Engine problems?

Just don't walk into the Cummins dealers and ask for 903 parts and expect them to fit the V8-300 in your truck - you'll be disappointed, as many people have been before you. Regards, David

    Filtering used oil

I've not experienced problems due to Teflon particles (thankfully) - but a factor to consider is the source of your used oil. If you're draining it from your own vehicles - you likely have a good idea of what you are getting. If you're picking it up from shops - then there is a GREAT chance...

    ANYONE know what this is?

RE: Re: RE: ANY know what this is? sure looks like a military master power switch. Best wishes, David

    Chassis Number

Wouldn't say that I have "superior knowledge" - just high mileage! The A2 designation as applied to the M35 denotes ONLY that it was originally powered by a "-465" engine. Everything else - seats, transfer case, horn, exhaust routing, cab stamping, etc. is only incidental. And, the A-whatever...

M35A2 1968 Kaiser exact color code for olive drab?

Chris, U.S. army regulations issued in the closing hours of WWII through the advent of the four-color MERDC camouflage scheme called for a semi-gloss OD. Although this order was issued before WWII ended - it specified that manufacturer's were to exhaust the supplies of flat on hand before...

    Chassis Number

Mark, Your truck is a 1967 Kaiser-Jeep M35A2, built on contract DA-20-113-AMC-03416 (T). It was built mid-year. Its registration number should be somewhere near 4K6100. It was originally powered by a naturally-aspirated LD-465-1C Multifuel engine. Hope this helps, David Doyle

    M108 steering box

Steering box is the same. Most trucks with a front winch are a tad harder to steer than those without. Regards, David Doyle
