Could you elaborate on this? I hear people talk about it being nice to replace the air driers, but never anything this strongly worded. It would be nice if a couple of the long-time experienced members would get together and write a "So you bought an FMTV, now what?" article.
I've been looking too, but haven't found one yet unfortunately. The LMTV's cab is literally feet wider, and feet shorter, than any vehicle you'd typically put a roof rack on. One thought I had is to find a rack that can fit rotated 90° (so that the long measurement for an SUV becomes the width...
True, though I could always talk to the guys down at the truck repair shop and see if I could pay one to come over with the tool and do it. Better than having it go, if that's common, and have to pull the engine out again.
I read a post once talking about being able to buy CARC from Sherwin-Williams commercial. I can't seem to find it again. Does anybody have more info on that (e.g. product line name, a paint part number, brand, etc.) that could get me going in the right direction? Thanks!
I'm going to be swapping out the engine in my M1078, because of the cracked block. The replacement engine is good, but also out of a mid-'90s truck. Is there anything I should go ahead and work on or replace, on the new engine, while it's out of the truck and easy to access? Seems like it...
I'm not nearly as curious about "how lockers perform in an LMTV" in general, as I am about the quality of THESE brand/design/quality. Are they "Detroit" lockers as in "they follow the general detroit locker design", or are they actually manufactured by Eaton (or whoever owns the "Detroit Locker"...
I did check, and Energy Suspension (and other similar providers) don't have anything close to this size.
I've made several sets of these for forum members now, and they seem to be performing very well. I have been slowly making more, as time allows.
I think there is a small chance, if you have lots of time (years?) to wait for the perfect set of circumstances, that you might be able to find one for $4000. Most of the auctions for LMTVs start bidding higher than $4000, which means you wouldn't be looking for an auction for a regular running...
I can tell you once I get it. However, it may be the same as the 225HP model. I know some people said the engine has several different internal parts (e.g. injectors), but I don't remember if they said it had a different turbo or not.
Yep, same here, which is why when the pictures with the mud guards caught my attention, I wanted to know more about them. I'm going to be swapping the engine in my M1078 soon, but after that I may design up some guards that bolt on and see what they would cost to get made. It might be worth...
I don't know, I've never seen pictures of the other side. My intial thought was that it would basically be the same thing on both sides, just with any changes necessary to fit the appropriate mounting locations. Now you have me wondering too...
