True. I was also eyeballing the rear metal mud guards, and wondering if there would be an easy way to make brackets to mount a set on the front wheels. I'm sure those would be cheap, since anyone parting out a truck probably has a set they're dying to get rid of.
Sounds like good advice. I've just been curious because I see them all over eBay, and I wondered if and what I should be servicing regularly. Specifically, I was puzzled by the "annual service" name, when the manuals don't list any service intervals, kits, etc.
LMTV bed is 12.5'x8', and the MTV bed is 2' longer (14.5"). The width is to the outside, so you lose a couple inches on each side because of the bed sides, so it's something like 7'6" useable inside.
I see lots of NSN-numbered "annual service kits" on eBay, but I don't see anything in the manuals that clearly lays out what annual service actually encompasses. What are all the seals and things in this kit for?
Example kit:
I used a shipping broker to arrange the transport. It went ok (mine was running), though it was obvious when I talked to the driver that there was little communication between anyone in the chain (i.e. the driver was given little more than an address and general description... "army truck")...
You guys see what I'm talking about, right? The green arrow points to a mud guard, that is not part of the hydraulic reservoir for winch models either. The red arrow points to a truck, like mine, that doesn't have the mud guard, and even happens to show all the mud that gets slung on the...
What does SPX mean?
The exploded diagram is in the LMTV parts manual. In the maintenance manual all I have found so far is how to change out the entire assembly (but it might be in there somewhere).
Looking through my phone, I don't have a good one that illustrates it clearly. However, mine looks exactly like this one. No angled sheetmetal guard between the front tire and battery box.
On my hydraulic control panel, the knob that selects cab/tire/suspension has started to leak hydraulic oil. The manuals have some exploded diagrams that show the knobs come out with a bunch of little o-rings on them. Are there kits to replace them all?
I've seen in some pictures that there are rear mud guards for the front tires. Mine does not have them, but I would like some. Are they only on certain models, or have most just been removed?
Like this (between front tire and battery box)...
We aren't really talking about a problem orders of magnitude more difficult. The engine weighs roughly the same as the max lift capacity of the GI issue material handling crane, it's just going to be a few feet further away. My idea is something like this...
1. Crane needs to have length...
Makes sense. I should measure and see what the largest plate possible is, for the crane to still fit in all 4 bed holes.
I see two other concerns... 1.) The crane would need some way to extend/contract while loaded, in order to pull and position the engine correctly. 2.) The crane would...
