I need to replace the engine in my LMTV. Today it dawned on me that perhaps I could kill two birds with one stone by building an in-bed crane, which initially I would use to actually change the truck's own engine. I was imagining something very close to what you already have here. Otherwise I...
Why bronze? I was thinking of making some too, but was just going to use CNC machined billet aluminum or steel, for probably roughly the same price. I'm curious if your way would be better or not.
I think that's overkill. It's just a big circle with a bolt circle. Anyone that can do CAD should be able to make that in about 5 minutes (the measuring would take longer than drawing it).
Also, 3D printing isn't strong enough for this kind of stuff, and is typically porous (without further...
The LineX is used as an anti-spall coating over ballistic armor. It doesn't stop bullets itself, it just reduces the spatter (spall) left over after the projectile fragments at high speed.
And did that happen similar to how I described? You crank, you hear a few cylinders fire but it won't catch, you wait and crank again (10-20 sec) and you hear a few more catches, repeat several times and it will finally lope enough to keep it turning and then after 20-30 seconds of that it's...
I did get a chuckle out of that. It was -7° this morning, and our 40°F nights are even in the summer.
Anyways, yes, mine exhausts a fog of white "smoke" (I think it's actually unburnt diesel fuel) until all the cylinders are firing after 10-20 seconds. This engine (3116) does not have glow...
Yeah, I agree. Biggest concern for me there is that you have an engine that is barely broken in, but has 20 year old gaskets and seals. That's why rebuilding with a new block sounds appealing, despite being a huge pain in the butt.
Yes, and no. I see whole trucks being sold for less than just used engines out of 1078s, so it's not that clear cut. So far it's looking to me like a running cabless chassis seems to go pretty cheap, but they happen infrequently enough that finding one near me is unlikely (if I have to pay...
I'm not sure why you're so riled up. I didn't ask for thoughts on the vibration issue. I'm satisfied it's fixed, but I realize you feel a u-joint couldn't/didn't do it. One thing at a time, and right now I'm looking at how to replace the engine, which needs to happen regardless of what caused...
