No Ron, it's the 20,000 lb winch, just mounted upside down in this application.
The chain and hook is only rated 10,000 lb, I think to encourage the use of a snatch block, although it is easily replaced with a shackle of proper rating if need be...
Well it did very well in 8 inches of snow (official 12 inches) as long as there was level ground, climbed a 14% incline even. Problem was the side slope and with no load in the rear. It's more slick than it looks, my son had trouble with his M37 in the same area and he has chains in the rear...
Started working with the winch a couple of hours ago and found the engage lever not working, PTO drive shaft turning, but couldn't get the drum engaged. We removed the 200 ft of wire rope to make things easier to work on later....
Plan B: Snow shovel.
After clearing away the snow in front of...
Since you are on the electrical now, how about welding a "static" ground connection to your tank. The ground will be important for any fuel level sending unit and/or pump you might install.
A relay can be used to switch the fuel gauge as you select the right or left fuel tank or a double pole...
Hey Patrick, those temps are not "cold" for the multifuel, what is the real problem here?
Make sure the batteries are fully charged and the cranking rpm is at least 200. Is there a leak in the fuel system? Bleed on top of final/sec filter bracket before cranking to make sure.
If you expect...
Thanks!
The heater was not running, at 40 degrees it was just right climbing in and out and with the engine warming.
The key to driving here was not to break through the compacted snow, of course, sliding sideways took care of that in a hurry and all traction was lost. Got a good excuse now for...
It's been about ten years since we had a foot of snow here, so I just to get the 8x8 into it.
Aired down all tires to 10 psi and the low profile NDCCs now leave a good 16" wide track in the snow.
The truck had no problems on level ground and also made it up a 14% incline.
Obviously 8 or 10...
Hey Chris, that filter looks like a mistake, hard to believe that it was installed in a production vehicle...also, it should be a water separator. If you have the space, go for the Racor type used on the Hemtt trucks, should be surplus units around for about $35 that only need a cleanup and new...
After the storm past, we had over a foot of snow on the ground and Adrian was eager to drive his M37 again. We have nothing but hills around here and most of the driving is downhill from where we park out vehicles, so you take a chance leaving since you have to climb some hill getting back no...
No additives Eric, other than kero, diesel or gasoline. That's why there are so many solutions involving heating the fuel, filters and fuel lines including the dual tank system on the my deuce.
The Elsbett 100% veggie oil conversion for Mercedes cars is only good to a few degrees below freezing...
Yeah, we got some of that snow. :-)
Love locust, used it for a 300' rail fence, flag pole, and 3ea pipeline truck beds and many other things. The small "trash" pieces makes excellent firewood.
My son's '53 M37 came in handy yesterday when we got some locust firewood out of the woods. It just started snowing and the fresh snow on top of the leaves made it a bit slick at times, especially on the 30% grades, but the truck performed well as usual and got the job done.
I'm with divemaster, check the fuel cut-off lever on the IP, it may be sticking if you have no smoke (=no fuel).
My deuce is currently running 100% biodiesel and there is a difference in starting performance at temps below 50°F, don't even want to try starting it at freezing temps, too hard on...
IMHO, add a drain, checking for water is so much easier that way. Get one that requires an internal hex drive or something a little odd to slow down a potential thief.
