    Can't change fan belt

You probably know all that, but you can lay a string either in place of or over the belt and mark the required length on the string. The V-belts are labelled as per their outside measurement and inside/outside can vary quite a bit with belt thickness and width. 2 or 3 inches inside-outside...

    Winch drum not turning?

As Gringeltaube pointed out in another thread (I remember random things, it's a curse) if it clanks on the passenger side, twice per drum revolution, it is the dog clutch - it has two detents.

    Winch drum not turning?

I assume you moved that hinged flap to allow the clutch lever to move. Clutch lever can be loose on the shaft (or shaft can be twisted). When it is properly engaged, the drum no longer free-spools. I assume you have a new shear pin that is intact, all the way through. Did you check that the PTO...

The rescuer becomes the rescuee (M35A2 issues)

I, too, think of my M35 as reliable. When do you need that, if not in a situation like yours. If the truck doesn't perform, one feels a bit abandoned. Ultimately, it is not the truck's fault. It's a machine and sometimes it will fail. It still is not a good feeling. I hope the defect is...

1952 M35 Gasser repair and build

Actually, not so bad getting it into the cab corner. You will check the brake fluid level more often when the reservoir is in the cab!

Engine sound - don't like what I am hearing - Help me diagnose

Affirmative on the valve adjustment. Also, valve train looked ok; no sludge or unexplainable metal shrapnel. Negative on the turbo, have never pulled my D-turbo since I have the truck. Interesting though....on my test drive I was thinking "It makes such a racket, I can't even hear the turbo...

Engine sound - don't like what I am hearing - Help me diagnose

Injectors back from shop, set to max pop pressure and balanced, ultrasound cleaned - look like new. They said the nozzles were fine and did not use any of the spare nozzles I provided, in case. I still did not manage to do a proper compression test. I have a military injector adapter, used a...

Parts questions - rubber seal ring on injectors and copper gasket, valve cover gasket

Thanks, I found TMJ Murray. Sometimes the stuff they have is not on their web page. My injector shop had the copper crush washers for the injectors.

Long time lurker finally got a Deuce

A few good mods on that Deuce! The 5ton air filter looks cool and I also like the brush bumper. The spray painted "Scrap" on the tail gate definitely adds flair....I would consider clearcoating that and leaving it, while repainting the rest of the truck! It would be a memento of what the truck...

New O rings on HH ... truck no start.

So a main symptom is hunting at idle. Is the fuel turned up and/or the FDC bypassed? If so, was the droop screw adjusted as well? If not, it could/would affect starting and idling. Then there is the governor. It sits underneath the FDC. I do not know much about it, other than that it is a...

    LDT 465 Injector Advice

My diesel injection guy is currently r&r my injectors. He mentioned that, within reason, the exact pop-off pressure is less important than the injectors opening at the same pressure (balance). Higher pop off pressure means better spray pattern and as more precise "injection window" for injection...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Trying to avoid a flamed discussion here. It is a little bit like having cheap carpet installed...the labour is exactly the same. It depends what one wants. If the goal is just to have a running truck, a good takeout is probably the most cost-effective way. One needs to compare apples to...

    m35 transmission noise..

Have you checked the jack shaft bolts (short drive shaft between tranny and transfer case)? They have a tendency to come loose and make all sorts of strange noise at lower shaft rpm.

Parts questions - rubber seal ring on injectors and copper gasket, valve cover gasket

My injectors have an orange rubber ring seal that seems to serve as a dust cover between the injector and the injector port in the head. They are not shown in the TM (TM 9-2815-210-34-2-2). Are they needed and where can I get them? Who has the injector copper crush gaskets and/or what size are...

Parking Brake Cable Adjusting Thread Specs Needed

I can't help you on the thread type and pitch. I seem to remember that it was nothing special, at least not on the aftermarket replacement cable I installed. Maybe that pic helps: http://thumbs2.picclick.com/d/w1600/pict/161209781649_/PARKING-EMERGENCY-BRAKE-CABLE-FOR-25-TON-M35A2-M35A3.jpg...

Engine sound - don't like what I am hearing - Help me diagnose

Pulled the injectors today and adjusted valve lash. Intakes were tight throughout. Definitely not good. Went with 0.15 intake (as per Jatonka) and 0.25 exhaust. #5 and #6 exhaust were rather loose. Definitely feel good that valve lash is adjusted. Wanted to do compression test with my fancy...

1952 M35 Gasser repair and build

You probably already saw this thread about steering box seals: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?105162-M35-steering-box-seals Strong suggestion is to either leave the box alone and use cornhead grease (0 or 00 semi-liquid grease) or to take it out and do a full rebuild, not just seals.
