Got any more info on this?

    1 micron

Not to be nitpicking, but the original Purolator/Facet filter elements are 4 micron nominal, 15 absolute (P/N 053161-04). The primary water separator/filter is 40 microns... Problem(s) with used engine oil may not be apparent after only a few thousand miles and there is also the possibility of...

    Throttle control

Is there a good screw adjustable (vernier) throttle control out there in surplus land, that could take the place of the pull type? TIA for any info.

    Kenworth 8x8 PLS Videos

Like it! Surprised at the steep angle of the deck though, almost 45° from the looks of it. You know Joel, with our pipeline beds (roller in the rear) and HIABs we could do almost the same thing. :-)

    One more IP question

Like gimpy says, all parts must move freely. Here are images to refer to. When you had the shut-off assy out , was it turning easily then? You may have over tightened the two mounting screws, if so, re-torque the screws and install safety wiring.

    IP Timming Issue

The crankshaft turns twice for each turn of the IP timing gear, you are 180 degrees out for all timing marks to line up. If nothing is turned when the HH is off, it will all be back to normal after it is back together, like scrapman says.

    Question for off-road experts

Thanks for taking the detour Duncan, better hang on to what we have left of the m656/xm757 trucks in this country, since they appear to melt away quickly over there. Tom, the 5th wheel and dromedary platform on the 757 weigh about as much as the aluminum bed on the 656 cargo version. The...

Ip timming mark questions Engine bump

That whole mechanism must be removed to see the timing marks, but yes make sure the linkage is in the "no fuel " position.

What is a pyro do I need one

If you like to experiment a little, just get the K-type thermocouple installed and using your DVM (I assume everybody has one these days) with an adapter. The digital read out will give you a fast accurate response and show how many peaks are actually averaged out on an analog display.

    Starter Relay

You should have a starter relay, unless you are prepared to run some very heavy gauge cable to the starter button from the solenoid (on the starter), and selecting a start button, which is rated for 50 amps or more... On the multi the start relay is mounted on the right side of the engine close...

Ip timming mark questions Engine bump

Place the transmission in gear, transfer in neutral and turn the drive shaft between the transmission and transfer by hand (using a tool for leverage). This is best done with two people.

    Fuel line replacement Material

Your local NAPA will have the black plastic nylon "air brake" lines with ferrules and inserts, which are perfect for this. Just specify 1/4 or 3/8 inch . Re-use the rest of fittings. Edit: Added image

Photo shop topkick mirrors on deuce?

Don't believe that it's that new, the mirrors for the m656/xm757 were a hot item from what I have heard, for use on many vehicles besides the original. Mostly in Germany in the 1970s.

    Boiled joints a la Bjorn

Yes Kenny and "locked" with a bolt (the bushing/ball stud). The other end is seated in a rubber bushing and those are still good as far as I can tell, but if not, they are available new and can be pressed in. The rods are made of aluminum, btw.

    Boiled joints a la Bjorn

After a short test drive the other day to find out how the bogies behaved on the 8x8, I have discovered that the "sealed for life" torque rod bushings are frozen, just like the steering ball joints were (also "sealed for life"). The steering joints, were cooked in oil for 4 hours and loosened...
