Often, it helps to simply disconnect ALL the cables on the batteries. Then hook them back up IAW the schematic. If someone else before you, or you, have hooked up something wrong, thats the only way you are going to find it.
Can you read schematics? If so, You need to check out if the S9 is sending initial excitation to the Main gen. Should be S9-2 function. Pins A&C I think.
When you hold up the S2, (Start Switch) and let the engine go through its starting phase, do the volts and hertz meters move at all? Do them come up, until you let the S2 go? Or make any movement at all? What voltage do you get at the 120 volt outlets? Do you get any idiot lights, after letting...
I highly daubt the Optima battery is "dead". I know they aint what they used to be, but just because someone tells you its dead? No. You need to check it out for yourself. Get a battery charger that is made to charge that type battery. Then load test it. Its very hard to really kill an optima.

I know, old thread but mine is having the same issues. Was the fuse LITD mentioned the added fuse on the back wall, (No) or is there one right behind the guage panel I missed? (Yes. its labeled FU1)

This is DA Form 5823. This is the form that fits in the pocket on the Log Book cover. Back in the day, there was no DA Form 5823. It was simply a 3X5 card, filled out with the same info, shoved into the pocket.
