I think a great follow up would be a field guide to MEP generators with a set of 1-2 pages of photos and basic information about each of the popular smaller models, possibly with a bit of commentary on things like fuel economy, parts availability, common issues, etc. Maybe even including a bit...
The question has came up before either here or on the SmokStak board, and I think the answer was yes they will bolt up. As to how much you can push out of a MEP-002a generator head, this is one of those questions with no real answer. At some point lets call it point Z you will instantly burn...
Looks interesting, certainly something to consider the next time I need a new battery on my 701a, if you do produce this commercially, you might also consider making it so it can be adapted to the MEP-016D which has no on board batteries, but does have a starter designed to be jump started from...
Here go a few potential revision suggestions:
add a section of the advantages of connecting in 120V only mode if the person does not have any 240V loads that must be powered during emergencies (the main advantage being no need to balance the load), this gets a lot more important on the 1.5 and...
I ran across it a week or two ago, there is some good information there, but there was no contact info so no place to send comments or suggestions.

Hey, don't say too much bad about the little Honda inverter units, they are real work horses for their size, and just sip fuel. There is a guy that lives in the wilds of Alaska that is a regular on the Smokstak Onan generator board, he has a neighbor a few miles away that has one of these...
ETN550: I would love to see the 701 battery tray mod, just bought a new 24V battery for mine a couple of months ago.
Also on the two MEP-016D's I recently bought, the one that was done by a contractor has a Walbro FR series fuel pump on it, the on that was done as field job has the standard...
I have never heard of a MEP0002a, going to the Government Liquidation (you said liquidators, did you mean liquidation?) web site I find 106 MEP-002a generators auctions listed at the moment, some in your state. As to the manufacturers name, they are all the same, it was just a matter of who...
I have a similar problem on my MEP-701a, max output voltage varies with ambient temperature, in the winter it seems to go up to 128V or so, but on hot 100+ degree summer days it will max out around 118 volts. I have changed out the top transistor you mentioned with no change in symptoms...
That is a tough one, these are current generation models and don't show up on the surplus market very often. I can tell you that the previous generation of 3KW units built in the late 1980's typically sell in the $400-$600 range, this seems to be true of both the 28V DC units and the 60 HZ...
Buzz254,
As you know there are already several people buying, refurbishing and reselling these generators online, plus it seems many more that sell through more traditional offline methods. Pricing is often the problem, I was looking at the web site for one online reseller of "refurbished"...
joediveguy: It depends on just how much you need to run, for many people a MEP-002a at 5KW is enough to run important loads, but will only run a small modern central air conditioner, a MEP-003a at 10KW is twice as much, but also tends to cost about twice as much or more, and drink twice as much...
I am sure there are several of them, however I suspect many may not have regular internet access and many of the ones that do are busy with other things. Most likely the only ones we will hear from are the ones having trouble.

Well it is a 2KW 28 Volt DC diesel powered generator, which I guess might have a place in an off grid cabin that uses a 24V battery bank for power when the solar or wind power systems can't provide enough power to recharge the batteries. Otherwise I am not sure what you would use it for.

Just off the top of my head, it seems 15KW should be in the 70 amp range at 120/240V single phase, if so 2/4 SO cord should work for you, maybe even 4/4 SO cord. You might also check out ebay for 75 - 100 amp pin and sleeve connector set that will work for you.
