Problems
Ive had them all with these fuel systems. All my trucks have a switch on the dash to TURN OFF the in tank pumps after enginge warm up. and before driving. though sometimes when just on the road to start a journey.
A note. Some of my trucks run with the pumps off..but some DO NOT!, no...

they HAVE to open a door..? Mine have those "personal allarms" on SHORT cable..and when the doors are opened..THAT'S one heck of an UNBEARABLE racket!..and then there is a FUEL starvation TAP..AND the (usual) Electric MASTER switch. That should about do it..unless they are winching and...

J. What in heck HAPPENED when that rim came off while your dad was airing that wheel up???. That is a REALLY seriouse thing to happen, and I felt you might have added more to the saga to make others aware of the (actual) TERROR of working with a any rim in any way...
OIL level. Pump divider properly in gear (mesh) listen for "engine drop" when engaged in cab and on deck. (deck clutch ENGAGED?) Sometimes a "smart" pull on the engage lever gets it in mesh. NO FORCE just good HAND pull.
Make sure RPMs are up to speed. Underneath check shaft rotation. power...

apart from adding the step as mentioned (tho mine is at the rear.) I have removed the "stops" to allow 360 degree rotation of the crane. Other than that (and holmes lifting gear lights sirens and radios!.. I find it well ok to manage/use..and I am aged...!

You "chinese 8" , then it would be an 8x6. and the steering setup would be like the "brewery"trucks that are converted to unload from the rear over here.
That dead axle (not driven) is easier (relativley) to convert and still attains the look.
